So here is my long update on Tuesday! Finally. I wish I wrote it a little earlier since it was fresh in my mind, but I have been so busy with work lately. But here we go:
Tuesday I left work early *shhh, don't tell them why!* And I headed down to my sisters. We of course, had to make about 6 stops before actually leaving for NYC. So we were an hour and a half behind schedule! Finally, we were on our way and made it into Manhattan at 5:30! I was hoping to be there b y 4 at least so I could go to the Magnolia Bakery. I really wanted to get some cupcakes and one for Darren to give to him that night. Unfortunately we didn't have time. So we parked and tried to find Borders. After 6 wrong blocks we made it.
When we got there there was maybe 20-25 people waiting, and of course everyone in the front was tall, so me being so short, could hardly see. I managed to squeeze between two people so I had somewhat of a view, lol. we waited for about two hours for Darren, by then there was maybe 75-100 people? At this time I had such a headache because I had some people around me talking about how they wanted to touch Darren's bum and such, and after a while...well, you know how it is.
Around 7:15 Darren came out, and started singing "The Only One" which made my day. It's my favorite song, and he just does is so amazing live. I've been listening to the live recording since, and I just love it more and more every time. After that he chatted with us a bit, did some more songs, including his cover of "Gimme More" by Britney, and I thought he sounded amazing.
At one point he told us he was so glad people showed up, because if they didn't he would have been really depressed and would have sang and hummed throughout the aisles of Borders the rest of the night. I love how funny and sweet he was, you could tell he was really happy we were all there.
The last song was Casey, and then we went to the meeting and signing. When it got to me, I was so nervous, I was shaking, lol. So when I told the guy my name, and he said it to Darren, he just looked up and said "Hey! I remember you! How are you? I'm so glad you came!" and that just made me so giddy! I don't know where he remembered me from, probably MySpace, but it was pretty awesome. At that point I was just on cloud nine. we talked for maybe 2-3 more minutes. I HAD to ask him about his key necklace. I absolutely LOVE that necklace, and I wanted to know if it had any special meaning to him. He told me no, he was given the necklace on a photo shoot and he actually lost that one, so he bought a new one. This one was so pretty little diamonds and all! But the funniest part when I asked him if it had any meaning, he said "No, but THIS does!" and showed me his wedding ring! Awww!
I gave him a letter and a card I wrote him, and lets just say I hope he got a chance to read it, but I know he's been busy with everything. The people at Borders said no pictures with Darren since there were so many, but I asked him if he would mind and he said "of Course!", so he turned and smiled at my sister, and let her take a picture of us.
He signed my cd booklet, poster and Attitude magazine I bought off of eBay. He then asked me if I was coming to the Canal Room, and unfortunately I couldn't make it because I just started my new job training, he told me not to worry, that he'll be back in *insert month here* And because I'm an idiot, I forgot what month he said!
Finally my sister came up to talk to him, and I introduced him, and he seemed to be so happy that I brought her. I told him how she's always gone with me to see him, and he told her don't worry about it because when he was younger his sister used to bring him to see the Dark Crystal with her all the time. She then showed him our first ticket stub from 1998, and to my surprise he remembered what state it was in and everything!
Then it was time for the next person, so we said goodbye and I was just so happy at that moment. I then asked Steve for a picture, and he was just so sweet! And let me just say if I ever thought an Australian accent was hot, it was now. 'Cause WOW, he sounds awesome, lol. We chatted about MySpace and how he needs to buy a laptop soon. He was just so nice.
My sister and I decided to wait around for a bit. We also discovered that I lost my parking stub, so spent about an hour looking for that. By the time we stopped looking, Darren was down to about 20 people. At this point I was stuck paying for a full days parking, so I said we were waiting until he was done. Finally the last few people went up and Darren was done. There were two girls that asked him for pictures and they were turned away. But hey, you only have one shot, and you would regret if you didn't ask, right?
So we waited until after he was done with all the Borders photos with employees and friends. And as he was walking away I just said his name and he came over and I asked for a picture. He got a look on his face like he was debating whether or not to say yes or no, then just the cutest look came on his face and he said "Sure, Let's do it!" so he leaned into me and said "Didn't we take one already today?" so I told him yea and it was at the table, this one was up close, and he said "We'll do it anyway!" and that was that. The picture came out great, and I love it so much. I said goodnight to him and into the side door he went.
Then it was time to leave, and on the escalator ride down, half way through I noticed Steve was right in front of me, and Darren was about a rides worth up waiting to get on.. Talk about random. We then went to get the car, and went to the Magnolia Bakery.
I just have to say the night was amazing. To finally be able to talk to Darren one on one after so many years, it was just wonderful. I can't believe how genuine, and sweet he is. You can seriously talk to him like you've known him for ages. I don't think I've ever been so proud to be a Darren Hayes fan. And honestly, if I had to choose between a 20 minute show and 5 minute talking experience, compared to a 90 minute show front row, there's no doubt I would take the first option. It was one of the best days of my life, hands down.
