Curious

I was starting to work on making a new black tank top (I deleted my old one in a fit of cleaning), and I got to thinking about what you look for when downloading outfits for your simlets.  I thought I'd make a fancy-pants poll here and get some input from everyone.  Feel free to leave a comment if you'd like to.  ^_^

It makes perfect sense. ^_^

I think I've wasted a goodly amount of time trying to pick a top out for a bottom, only to turn around and change the bottom and start the whole process over again. XD

I actually don't know. There are times when I have an awesome shirt, or an awesome pair of pants, and nothing good to pair them with, so in those cases it's way more convenient to just have a complete outfit. But then there have been so many times that I've looked at complete outfits and I'll really like the shirt, or really like the pants, but it'll be paired with capris (I have this really irrational hatred of capris in TS2) or a really awful top or something, and I just can't bring myself to download it. So. Um. I don't really know how to answer. I use complete outfits more often than separates. Maybe I'll just go ahead and say that.

That's the sort of thing I worry about as a creator, which is a huge part of why I ended up with three or four different variations on the lumberjack mesh, and why I really wanted to make it as a top-only.

Thanks for the input! :D

I tend to prefer using complete outfits rather than using the separates. I've noticed that there seem to be more creators doing separates as of late, so I may have to break down and start getting more of them.

In part, I think it's easier to manage having whole outfits than having separates. Sure, separates theoretically offer more flexibility, but they require that the pieces you're matching are of similar quality and look. With a whole outfit, I know that the look is going to be unified and that's that. With separates, I've got more choices than I want to deal with.

I also don't know if it's relevant, but it seems to take up more drive space to use separates rather than whole outfits. If an outfit is 120kb, and then two separates are both 90kb... the separates are going to clog up more of my precious, precious cc space. :)

You know, I never even thought about the issue of drive space! I know I've had a couple of full outfits that were borderline insane as far as that goes, but generally that's very true about the total size of the two separates.

I'm already sliding past 2.5 GB of cc, so I've been trying to be more careful about what I download. I've gotten better about furniture and other objects, but clothes just seem to make me go, "oooh, I need that!" but they're not as easy to find and clear out.

I'm creeping up on 4GB (3.98 to be exact) compressorized, so I hear you on that one! Hair seems to be what gets me in the most trouble, and that stuff is just unpleasant to go through.

Hm... I like to download complete outfits for the other age groups and separates for adults. Though lately I've been kind of lazy and just use complete outfits for everyone. It takes a lot less time to decide on an outfit, especially since my computer is so crappy that everything takes some time to load.

The lazy factor is basically what drives everything I do. XD

It varies for me too. If I want to be lazy in dressing, I'll go through full outfits. If I'm getting nit picky on personality based dressing, or using a particular seperate. I prefer getting the untucked look based on seperates because I dislike how it looks when done on a full body mesh with no or little depth in the look of them. And the mixing and matching, because I might not always like the color mix the maker used in a full outfit.

Seperates also provide a laugh, because of the awful combinations the randomizer puts together with the townified clothes (and I enjoy fashion torture on the townies).

I think I'm going to have to start townifying things!
