"Let him go."
The accusing tone in Shouri's voice echoed hollowly, repeatedly, in his memory. Conrad doesn't ever want to lose Yuuri, not after waiting for the last fifteen years. That was his only fear.
"Just because you helped in Yuu-chan's birth and named him, don't be so conceited about it."
Had he been conceited about it? Maybe back then, but not anymore, not now. No, he downplayed his past role on Earth whenever Yuuri broached upon that topic, despite the young boy's insistence that he, more than anyone else from Shin Makoku, deserved the right to call him by name.
"Yuuri doesn't belong to you. His happiness belongs to him alone."
Conrad knew that all too well. But still, he had freely given away his heart once more. His soul will be with Yuuri always, and nothing could change that.
"Conrad! There you are- I've been looking all over for you," Yuuri interrupted, as he uncerimonously flopped down next to the resting soldier under a very nice shady tree. "Are you okay? You looked worried for some time now." Anxious black eyes peered into Conrad's.
"It's nothing you should worry over, Your Majesty. I'm fine," said Conrad as he gave Yuuri his trademark smile.
"I don't trust your 'I'm fine', Conrad." That blunt reply startled Conrad to such an extent that his eyes opened in surprise, to really look at his king. Yuuri gripped his arm with tight reassurance. "I WANT to worry about you Conrad -and you can't stop me." The two of them stared at each other in earnest for quite awhile, sharing the thoughtful silence between them. Neither one of them refused to yield to the other.
A sigh escaped before Conrad could stop himself. "I am afraid. I am afraid of losing you."
The light inherent in Yuuri's eyes only shone brighter with new understanding. "I feel the same. But as long as you are here", Yuuri pointed to his own heart, "and I am here-" his hand pressed gently upon Conrad's chest, right over his heart, "then we will never lose each other. Isn't that right Conrad?" A soft smile waited for the answer.
"Yuuri," Conrad whispered, as his free hand found its way up to keep that hand over his quickening heart. "Yes." He bent down to press a kiss upon Yuuri's forehead, but found instead petal-soft lips meeting his own. It ended all too briefly as a flushing Yuuri pulled back.
"I'm sorry," Yuuri gasped as he sought to regain his breath, "but I wanted to do that. It feels right somehow, and really good too." His wide smile returned in full force as his arms wrapped themselves around Conrad. "I'm happy whenever I'm with you. I belong here, just like this- if you let me."
Conrad chuckled out loud. "Of course- you never have to ask." He pulled Yuuri closer to him, as much as physically possible. His heart soared, no longer burdened with doubts. Now he definitely will not, and cannot, ever let go of Yuuri.
"Kiss me again?" teased Yuuri. "Please?"
Conrad gladly complied.
End.
