Can you do swimming? It's a low impact exercise, but really burns a lot of calories. Even just water aerobics of some sort, just to keep you in the habit.
I swam for about two months last year, but a.) the gym membership is really and truly out of my price range right now, and b.) it hurts my ankle. When I went swimming a week ago and got that bad sunburn, I could tell it was putting a strain on that ankle.
Huh...are slow walks with the dogs feasible? Or without the dogs, if "slow walk" + "dog" is not a sensible statement. A 20 minute walk covers most of a mile, but even if it doesn't it's still exercise. I've been learning recently that even when exercise isn't helping you lose weight, it's still good for your mood, helping you sleep, and a bunch of other things. Makes it worth doing, even if it's not slimming your waistline.
I've written quite a bit about how exercise affects my mood on the fitness blog I collaborate on, so I'd be the first to agree that exercise is something that assists an upset state of mind and helps me sort things out (which is why it's harder for me to maintain an even emotional state when I've been sidelined with an injury). But in the several months leading up to this injury, I've felt intense soreness in my right foot that's kept me from walking as often, as far, and as fast as I've wanted to and had been used to doing, which is why I've concentrated more on pilates and weightlifting since February or March instead of taking 2-to-3 mile walks around my neighborhood several times a week, one of my favorite pastimes

Eh, sorry for the unsolicited advice. Obviously you've thought this through a lot more thoroughly than I have. Well, it seems like you're doing the best you can. Keep it up. This will all pay off in the end. You've done a lot of good work so far. I hope you get to see the benefits soon.
