[Dog post] Ohh poor Bonesy

I ran out and did some errands a few hours ago. It was warm and overcast. Got back to the house, got on the phone with my sister, let the dogs out as I stood on the deck talking to her. When I went in, Spock came inside, but Bones stayed out. Eventually I wound up at the computer, and about 20 minutes ago, the lights flickered, but I thought nothing of it, as I didn't really hear rain or thunder. I got up to say hi to my boyfriend, get a drink, and maybe go check the mail. As I'm talking to my boyfriend, I look out the front door to see the overcast, dry day replaced by someone just throwing buckets of water down from the heavens. It's raining sideways. There's thunder and lightning. The water is flooding our flat yard and coming up to the edge of the sidewalk. We look out the back door to check on the poinsettia plant repotted in a hanging planter last night, then dangling from the edge of the back porch roof and getting all the water runoff from the roof. Worried that the rapid water flow would displace soil and the excess water would kill the plant, my boyfriend ran out to move it, getting soaked in the process. Spock and I were watching this spectacle when the thought struck me: Bones wasn't right there with us, begging to go outside. I looked in the bedroom, looked in the computer room in her daddy's chair (favorite nesting place), looked in the living room. "Uh..." I opened the side door to find Bones cowering in the 5'x3' side porch that barely protected her from all that rain and wind and thunder/lightning. She was just a little damp and a little skittish. Poor puppy. Now, this is the dog that has no qualms about scratching whatever door she's standing at to get in or out, howling full-tilt at the neighbors, barking to be let in or out and anything passing by her yard... but the one time her barking habit would have been useful in her entire life to date, she's quiet as a mouse. I just hope she's not afraid of storms after this.

spock, beagles, bones
