Ryeowook’s footsteps echoed through the hall as he climbed the stairs to the stage. He walks forward to a black grand piano in the middle, which is sparkling underneath the spotlights.
He looks at those black and white ivories with an unreadable expression on his face. His tapering fingers press some random keys. Limpid and sad clinks fill the silence. Then Ryeowook sits, hands get ready on the ivories. He closes his eyes and pauses again, as if he is thinking of something, and he starts to play the piano.
Silence is changed with a train of beautiful and cheerful melodies yet sadden at the same time.
Ryeowook’s eyes are still shut while his hands are dancing on the ivories, as if they have their own mind. And in Ryeowook’s mind, he is traveling to his past.
“Have you completed the song you make for your mother’s birthday?”
Ryeowook looked surprised, but he smiled at the moment he realized that it was Jongwoon, his lover. “Yes. Wanna hear it?” Without waiting for Jongwoon’s answer, Ryeowook played some keys and Jongwoon closed his eyes automatically.
“Hmm. it’s nice. I like it.” Jongwoon smiled, “I bet your mother will like it too.” He said when Ryeowook stopped. “Have you determined the title?”
Ryeowook mumbled an “hmmm”, titling his head to the side. Then an answer came out of his mouth along with a soft smile and eyes, “Static.”
“’Forever, not going to change’, eh? I don’t know you like flower language. Are you a girl?” Jongwoon mocked.
“No, i’m not! It’s my mother!” He suddenly stood up and pouted.
But he couldn’t avoid the red tinge on his cheeks when Jongwoon ruffled his brown locks and said, “I’m just kidding! You should see how cute you are when you pouted like that!” Jongwoon chuckled, pinching Ryeowook’s cheek.
“Okay,” Jongwoon stroked his cheek and sat on the bench. “Let’s play something.” He gave Ryeowook a playful smile while patting the empty place beside him, hinting for Ryeowook to sit there and play the piano with him.
“So, what song will we play today?” Jongwoon asked, smiling at Ryeowook who had already sat beside him.
Yes, Ryeowook says to himself, we always play piano together. I always see Jongwoon when i play piano. But now-
The fragments of memories flood Ryeowook’s mind one by one, until he doesn’t realize that the song is over and his hands don’t dance anymore. But Ryeowook hasn’t opened his eyes.
He’s scared.
He’s scared because he knows what will he sees when he opens his eyes.
After a few minutes elapsed, Ryeowook opens his eyes slowly and turns to the side.
Usually, Jongwoon will turn to Ryeowook, smile with satisfaction after playing a song. His black eyes sparkle, and a moment later, Ryeowook will realize that he himself is also smiling to Jongwoon. And afterwards, Jongwoon will say something that make Ryeowook’s smile widen.
Now, the smile that is left on Ryeowook’s face is just a bitter smile. Because when he turns to the side, he doesn’t find Jongwoon sitting beside him anymore. No more beautiful smile and bright eyes. And once again, Ryeowook forced to swallow the fact that Jongwoon has gone forever.
-now i see no one.
