I've been a bit sniffly the past week or so. I've had headaches of a sinusy nature on and off for the past 24 hours. This is the first time I've been ill in about a year (if you don't count morning sickness). I decided to make some soup to clear out my sinuses. Behold! A recipe:
purple water: leftover from boiling a beet
onion
carrot
purple cabbage
slice of lemon
hot sauce or cayenne pepper
wakame seaweed**
miso paste
cider vinegar
soy sauce
toasted sesame oil
Boil onion, carrot, cabbage, slice of lemon, and hot sauce or cayenne pepper in the purple water until semi-cooked. Remove from heat. Add seaweed, miso, vinegar, soy sauce, and toasted sesame seed oil. Wait a minute or two for the wakame seaweed to expand. Serve.
If you are using kombu, add it at the beginning with the veg.
**(thanks to
juju_bug, I can't find any seaweed other than sushi-wrappin' seaweed here in Scotland) Kombu is a good seaweed for soups, too.
I have a whole dissertation written on Asian-style soup variations. Remind me to type them up, okay?
