In the spirit of the new year (though about a month late) I went through my computer and email and notebooks and found all the niggly little bits of fic I started and never finished and compiled them into this: the great fic dump of '08.
Not sure this is everything, will be updated should I find anything later.
Titled (but not completed) Across the Universe sentences
Jude/Max. Has a lot of song lyrics, mostly from the Beatles, though I can't be completely sure since this was written over six months ago.
Title: I'll come back for the honey (and you)
#01 - Air
Jude finds it hard to breathe as Max tilts his head back and lets out a lungful of smoke, and Sadie sings softly in the kitchen, "Feelings are reeling free as the air."
#02 - Apples
It is only when Max puts his half-eaten apple down on the table and wanders away, distracted by something else, that Jude can finally draw an apple again.
#03 - Beginning
Max has a new city, a new house, a new job, a new life - and Jude (the reason why).
#04 - Bugs
"Don't wait up, sugar bug!" Max laughs as he slams the door shut, Jude's half-exasperated, half-affectionate "Bugger off!" drifting down the stairs behind him.
#05 - Coffee / #06 - Dark
Sadie smiles to herself when she sees Jude pouring tea for himself and coffee for Max, and singing absentmindedly, "... bright are the stars that shine, dark is the sky, I know this love of mine will never die ..."
#08 - Doors
It's been a long and winding road, but as Jude walks through the door of the Customs Office, towards America and Max,
#09 - Drink
And what happened last night is more than a little fuzzy, but Max, awakening with Jude's hair in his face and the taste of strawberries in his mouth, thinks that he'd really like to remember.
#10 - Duty
"Do your duty, soldier," the sergeant yelled, and Max closed his eyes, remembering dark eyes and charcoal-smudged fingers.
#12 - End
"The love you take is equal to the love you make," Max quips, nodding wisely, and Jude, sprawled on the bed, gets the gleam in his eye that Max was aiming for.
#13 - Fall
"Yeah," the boy smiled, sweet and sly at the same time, and Max unconsciously leaned forward, waiting for the boy's name.
#15 - Flexible
Jude doesn't quite know how they managed to fit where they did - neither of them are exactly small - without breaking their backs, but bloody hell he's glad they figured it out.
#17 - Food
Max didn't understand why, but after seeing Jude flinch from the bowl of strawberries on the table, he quietly made sure that the red berries no longer appeared in the house.
#21 - Head
Max buried his fingers in Jude's thick dark hair before pulling him close and kissing that smirk right off his face.
#24 - Hope
After a lifetime of waiting and searching his own father can't look him in the eye, and that's almost worse than not knowing he existed; but on the other hand, his new friend has blond hair and pretty eyes, and has just invited him home for Thanksgiving, so maybe the trip wasn't completely pointless.
#25 - Light
The neon light of the club makes Jude's surprisingly straight teeth glow weird colours - or maybe that's what he smoked earlier starting to kick in - in any case, weird as it sounds, Max really wants to lick them.
#26 - Lost
Max drifts aimlessly from his cab to his couch to his bed and back, until a letter comes addressed to him, postmarked Liverpool.
#33 - Rain
Max bursts through the door, thoroughly soaked, and drags a half-reluctant Jude into a laughing kiss.
#35 - Roses
It was as Jude tore a flyer off a lamppost to sketch a quick rose on the back with a blunt pencil he found hidden deep in a pocket that Max realized why girls like his sister fall so hard for the other boy.
#36 - Secret
Max has to leave the room when Jude begins absentmindedly to sing, "Let me whisper in your ear, say the words you long to hear..."
#39 - Solid
Max finally relaxes, sinking into the big, warm hand at the small of his back.
#40 - Spring
It's spring in New York City, and while you can't exactly see the new plants sprouting and the baby animals frolicking, there's still that something in the air, breaking Jude out of his artist's block, and giving you the courage to take a chance.
Bones drabble
Meant to be one of those '5 things' with a happy ending type of fic. Didn't happen, haha.
Title: Two Things Zack Addy Does Not Believe In
Ghosts
Zack knows there is no such thing as ghosts. In fact, there is an abundance of evidence to the contrary.
Still:
Once Zack stepped up to his workstation and there was a girl sitting on it, as if she were in a doctor's office. She said, "My head hurts," and guided his fingers to the back of his head so that he could feel the screwdriver protruding from the base of her skull.
He sat up abruptly and found himself at home, in bed, with his alarm clock reading 12:48am.
Dr. Brennen may have found a screwdriver that fluoresced under Luminol in the stepfather's toolkit the next day, but that doesn't mean Zack believes in ghosts.
A.I.
Zack Addy does not believe in artificial intelligence. Sure, he builds robots in his spare time, and he does put a considerable amount of faith in his computer. But Zack knows that the human brain is simply too complex, too unpredictable for machines to imitate.
He sometimes thinks that if someone was able to make an intelligent robot, its brain would function the same way his does. He thinks that if robots did exist, they would be the only ones who understood.
Chronicles of Narnia drabble
Angsty little thing. Meh.
"It was just a game, and I won't play it any more. Time to grow up, Lucy."
Lucy stands silently at the door, watching her sister's silhouette disappear down the street. She stands long after Susan's shadow has vanished, as if waiting for her sister to come rushing back up the street towards the house. "I'm sorry, Lu, you're right. I'll stop pretending now."
Eventually she turns to Peter, who has been standing next to her for some time now. He can see tears shining in her eyes. She says quietly, "I miss her." Peter puts his arm around her, and nods.
Untitled Criminal Minds sentences
Hotch/Reid. 'Swat I watch for. Oh, and Garcia, but seeing as this was meant to be one of those pairing-centric things ... not much of her here.
#05 - Coffee
When Reid comes back, he's carrying a coffee for Hotch too, and Hotch's rueful grin when the coffee is set down in front of him is worth the long line, the crowded counter, and the ridiculously overpriced chain-store environment Reid had to endure to get it.
#06 - Dark
Hotch's hand is reaching towards the lamp when Reid asks, quietly, "Can you leave the light on?"; Hotch turns to look at Reid for a second, and there's something in his eyes that twists Reid's stomach.
#08 - Doors
"My door is always open," Agent Hotchner says, just as a myriad of teachers and school counselors and professors have before, but his hand stays heavy on Spencer's shoulder, and his eyes seek Spencer's out, and he knows that this is different.
#17 - Food
Hotch's hand slams a sandwich down on the table, Hotch's voice says, "Eat," and Reid thinks faintly that, unless Hotch truly has dissolved into a bunch of disconnected parts, eating would probably be a very good idea.
#35 - Roses
"According to the Victorians' language of flowers, dark pink roses indicate gratitude," Reid offers, almost casually; Hotch smiles.
#36 - Secret
If they sit next to each other more often than not, if they hold each other's gazes just a little too long, if their fingers brush and tangle and untangle when they think no one's watching - well, Morgan isn't going to be the one to say anything.
#40 - Spring
Hotch emerges from the smoke, looking shell-shocked but unharmed, and a quote surfaces in Reid's mind unbidden: 'O Wind, if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?'
Untitled JPOD sentences
So three sentences shouldn't really warrant an explanation, but: in the book, didn't really go for John Doe. Watched the show, LOVED him, at least until that strange episode where he does things with his tongue that really should not take up the entire screen. Barring that, loved him, hence this. JD/Ethan
#02 - Hero
"Okay gang," Steve said, rather over-enthusiastically, "what makes a hero? And ... go!" John Doe looked at Ethan, who grinned back at him in a "buddy-I-feel-you-let's-just-get-through-this-meeting-and-then-we-can-go-have-a-drink" sort of way, and said nothing.
#03 - Memory
When Cowboy answers the phone, he is not expecting to hear Ethan's panicked voice: "They were DOING it! On the couch! Shirt! Open! In JPOD!"
#39 - Overwhelmed
When John Doe appears at Ethan's door with a six-pack and a pizza, Ethan lets him in; when John decides that they're watching the hockey game, Ethan doesn't mind; when John's head somehow ends up in Ethan's lap, Ethan just runs his hand through John's hair; he supposes that, should they remember this tomorrow, they can probably pass it off as one of those awkward drunken almost-gay moments that, statistically, most men experience at least once.
NCIS drabble
Based off this prompt: a river, an iron gate, and someone's grandmother.
Title: Someone's Grandmother
"Tony," Ziva said, leaning in close, "you're not as talented as you like to think you are."
DiNozzo leaned up against the gate's iron grating and bared his teeth in a blinding grin. "That's not what McGee's grandmother said last night," he retorted.
"Hey!" McGee yelled from across the river. "I heard that!"
"Stop eavesdropping and get back to work, probie," DiNozzo yelled back, then winced as Gibbs' hand connected solidly with the back of his head.
"Give grandmothers the respect they deserve, DiNozzo," Gibbs said mildly.
"Sure thing, Gramps," DiNozzo said, and definitely didn't shriek as he was shoved down the bank into the ankle-deep creek.
So, not entirely happy with some of these (probably why they were never finished, lol). Some of them I don't even understand anymore, because I must have been thinking of a particular moment in the show (or whatever) that I can't remember now. But I am firmly of the philosophy that if you write it you should post it (eventually) (also, ahem,
kurasari), so here it all is.
[Edit: I tried to post this last night and failed spectacularly, as I hit "Post Entry" right as lj went under maintenance, which caused my client to explode. Of course I hadn't saved this or copied and pasted or anything, so I lost all the formatting I'd done and the edits I'd done to the fics themselves and I had to redo it all tonight. Yes, I am pro, why do you ask?]
