So, Square should soon be releasing a new game for the DS titled Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. It looks pretty great, with wonderful cel-shaded graphics, cutesy characters, simple plot reminiscent of the earlier games, and a quick, simple battle system with an AP system instead of MP.
Not to mention, it has
amazing music. Seems like a perfect game for me to get into on my DS when FFIII DS bored me to death by being a 3D NES game, and FFIV DS crushed my spirit at the final dungeon. But wait, there is a catch to all this goodness.
When selecting commands, you are unable to select who they effect, exactly, as they have predetermined rules for what commands hit who and what. This isn't really THAT bad, because all attacks will hit the same enemy until it's dead (I do this anyways), and white magic goes to who needs it most. I haven't figured out how black magic works, except that it hits the back row of enemies if they're there, but it's mainly in concern to whether or not it'll instantly hit those with weakness, or not, or at least be careful to not hit those who absorb that element of magic.
The game also has small inventory space (15 slots for each character), but I've played through Earthbound like 10 times (once in Japanese, too!), so it's not that big a deal.
On another bonus, if I reserve this game, I get this cute poster. For some reason, I have a big hard on for video game posters, so this was my main motivation for even wanting to pick it up (not to mention it's only 30 on the Gamestop website, which is lower than pretty much any Square DS game on release).
With all of this taken into account, I've decided I will PROBABLY, MOST LIKEY take the plunge and buy this game after messing with the japanese version for about an hour.
So I don't know why I wrote all of this. I guess I just felt like talking about it. Guess it's back to Pokemon, bitches.
