What's the point of anonymous spam?

Over the last week, I've gotten four weird, not-quite-sequitor anonymous comments on my various livejournals. They have the disjointed speech patterns and not-quite-related-to-the-post subjects that make me think they're automated.

Spam? But I am confused, because how will they benefit from leaving anonymous comments?
