Everybody Needs a Mailing List
Ahhhh.... Lots of updates to the writing side of my website (http://www.aswiebe.com). I also sent out an announcement of "Blood for Oil"'s publication to my newly created mailing list.
I used to have a list of people that I sent announcements about new photographs up on my website and publication of my stories and/or photographs. That list was lost. I sent out this announcement to a bunch of people I thought might be interested in knowing these things. If I'm wrong, let me know, and I'll take you off the list. "Blood for Oil" has been published in the September 2006 issue of Allegory Magazine (http://www.allegoryezine.com), formerly known as Peridot Books. Yay!
"Blood for Oil" is a short story about an oil company executive charged with finding new energy resources who finds one that has less to do with science and more to do with black magic. Continuing the pattern of which of my stories get published, it's straight-up horror with an environmental twist and a conspiracy-theory kicker.
Excerpt:
Darren lifted his hands and examined them in the harsh fluorescent light of the restroom. The cold water had left them white and wrinkled. The only spot of color was the purple-pink of his nail beds. He squinted at the creases in his palms and peered under his fingernails.
They were clean at last. There was not so much as a smear of black remaining.
He smiled at his reflection in the mirror, a brilliant flash of perfectly straight, white teeth. He smoothed his hair back and straightened his tie, smiling all the while. That was the attitude he'd been hired for. He was king of the world. And his hands were clean.
