Fixing Ekaterina

Aug 20, 2011 20:37

Some days, Phil earns his bread as a writer's spouse. Today, there was brainstorming on how to fix a beginning--where "brainstorming" equals "pointing out the horrible flaws in my first three ideas for a fix." And, I suppose, helping figure out what the final beginning is.

It sucks when the story really starts to work and hook the reader--two pages in. And there's stuff and foreshadowing I wanted to keep in that first part, but it's stiff and awkward and does not work as a beginning.

But! Now I have a solution. I will sleep on it tonight, and tomorrow there will be writing.
