Back of the Book: Charlie Gordon is about to embark upon an unprecedented journey. Born with an unusually low IQ, he has been chosen as the perfect subject for an experimental surgery that researchers hope will increase his intelligence -- a procedure that has been highly successful when tested on a lab mouse named Algernon.
As the treatment takes effect, Charlie's intelligence expands until it surpasses that of the doctors who engineered his metamorphosis. The experiment appears to be a scientific breakthrough of paramount importance until Algernon suddenly deteriorates. Will the same happen to Charlie?

I think everyone read this when they were in Junior High School but I picked it up again because my dad said it was his favorite book. If you haven't read it, you should, because it's worth the read and it's so, so sad. The fabulous bookseller at Barnes and Noble, who was wearing fabulous glasses and a fabulous purple sweater told me that I'd need a box of tissues. (Truth, even on the second read.)
