Painter Essential 2 (Crappy Crappy Stripped down ver.)

The picture doesn't look good (especially for the time that it took... 4hrs -.-) but Painter is a lot of fun to work with... I couldn't really figure out how their layers work though.. since it seems to have a screen effect on the brush by default if you use a transparent layer without a background color :( and the layers don't seem to be totally transparent to each other -.-;

I didn't know why I wanted to switch programs though I have always wanted to use Painter since it's famous for drawings with rich brush strokes and a sorta glowy skin...

Its brushes are a lot nicer than Photoshop and OpenCanvas... it really feel like real Acrylic and Pencil when I drew... and you get a lot of those natural blending and lovely brush strokes that I can never get with Photoshop and OpenCanvas easily... Initially I had some trouble with the color wheel... Painter Essential doesn't provide you with a palette (I think the full ver. does though), but the while kind of encourages you to temper with different colors and I end up much darker color for the skin tone then I normally does which is actually nice :) And you more incline to move around the color wheel instead of using the dropper which gives you drawing a little more variety in colors :)

The layers as I have mentioned, seems to make little sense to me... I can add and delete layers and that's about it... :( And because they layers work kind of wonkily with each other =.= and at times I even think it might be buggie cuz it's freeware from buying the tablet... But even then coloring and doing line art on the same layer isn't as bad as I though.. it's a little more going back and forth fixing the line after smudging it, but you get to keep working on the overall picture, which is something I find that I stopped doing when I use photoshop and opencanvas... and for those who have taken painting, they'd know that's not good :x

In anycase, I think I would love to try my hands on the full ver. Painter and try to work with it a little more... overall pretty good for the first try... but damn ain't it different from photoshop >.
