Notes on the World Series

OK, that was terrible.

I mean, that was 90% terrible. The bits that I will remember fondly:

1. There are sweeps where fans of the losing team experience no joy. We had a couple of moments (like at the end of the 7th inning in Game 3, when the score was 6-5), that I felt some hope. The hope of your team winning. It was only a few moments, but those moments made it all worth it.

2. Getting a "Rocktober" shirt in the mail from my Mom. Despite this World Series, and despite how hokey this slogan is, what the Rockies have accomplished this fall is without precedent. I will wear this shirt with pride.

3. When Phil Bailey sing "God Bless America" in Game 3, the cheer after the line "from the mountains..." That was totally unexpected and honestly, got me a little choked up.

4. Really, any mention of the terms "Colorado Rockies" and "World Series" in the same sentence.

This World Series featured the only two baseball teams that I have every felt affection for. While there was never any doubt about which team I was rooting for, the incongruous sight of the Rockies and the Red Sox playing for the world championship was simply bizarre for me.

This whole experience has made me re-think how I feel about the Red Sox. It'll be a long time before I can root for them again.
