New Phase of DVD Plan!

May 09, 2006 00:28

Update: The sooner we get each set into the library, the more people can check it out before the premiere. Let's keep our momentum!
Hey Guys! We're starting a new wave of DVD donations, and could use some volunteers. We are now going to be targeting markets that did not have UPN, but will have the CW (Updated with new cities: Volunteers Needed ( Read more... )

I said this over on TWoP not too long ago, but I'll repeat it here -

I've got BIG tests tomorrow and (specifically) Wednesday, but Wednesday afternoon, I should have time to do some calling if no one else beats me to it. We've got Targets all over town, and to my knowledge, VM is still on sale here at this point. It could save us a few dollars, versus Amazon, if the group/community is going to be covering that.

Anyhow, I won't be on LJ (or TWoP) until after I see the finale as of ... maybe 5-10 minutes from now. If there are any developments I should be made aware of, either reply to this comment (so I get the comment notification) or email me through LJ (as I have a paid account).

Otherwise, I'll just get the news/updates post test. =)

Madison WI is another town lacking UPN, and currently has the WB, and perhaps donating to the university library would be a good idea. I have personally hooked 5 people, but there is only so much my DVD set (currently still on loan) can do. A big college town means a lot of TV watchers.

Question on this one. I was driving home on the Beltline (Hwys 12, 18, 151 and ... something else that I'm forgetting) through Madison and I saw a huuuuge ad on the side of the road for UPN. If it's a new affiliate, it's definitely worth looking into getting them DVDs anyhow, since people would still need to get caught up, but it's still a point that may be worth reconsideration, if we haven't already purchased / sent DVD's there.

Just a thought.

I've been lurking, but wanted to pipe in on the Grand Junction-Montrose issue. It may be remnants of bad memories of visiting my grandparents in Montrose when I was little, but it's a small town. I looked up the population - it's between 12,000-15,000. Grand Junction is much bigger - roughly 45,000. I would definitely suggest Grand Junction over Montrose. Or at least start with some of the other bigger cities like Corpus Christi since I know that's big.

Just my two cents while I procrastinate at work.

*mutters* I just heard a helicopter fly over and it's making me anxious for news.

Thanks for the update. I was going to suggest that we rank these towns by size once we got the info in, but I didn't have any idea how big Grand Junction was. The good news is that both GJ/Montrose are part of a county-wise system, so it will get a little more exposure.

Thanks!

County-wise is much better. When I first saw it listed, I was quite shocked because my first inclination was that it was an 'older' area since I remembered such a tiny quiet town. But it's divided fairly normally amongst the demographics, so that helps. And if they still have that tiny movie theatre that I remember, they probably could use all the entertainment they can get! (granted I last visited at least ten years ago)

Grand Junction is also the home of Mesa State College.

I have e-mailed both San Diego city and San Diego County Public libraries and I'm waiting to hear back from an acquisitions person at county.
City libraries will only accept donations with no strings attached, but since some libraries already have copies it is probably a matter of calling individual branches and talking with the branch manager.
I'm a bit swamped right now but I can make some of these calls.
Also if I hear from the acquisitions person at county I'll let you know.
Sorry if this isn't right-I'm just now getting the hang of livejournal.
(I post as cellojag on TWOP)
