So, one of the numbers I've seen kicked around is that it takes 10 years to really master a skill. It's been about 10 years since I started designing and implementing software, and I'm not going to say I've mastered it, but within the past year I've found that I can get a hell of a lot done without really "thinking" about it.
What prompted me to post this is that a few minutes ago I was standing at the sink, washing some vegetables for a snack, and I shouted out "Oh, motherfucker!" It turns out that while I was rinsing vegetables I was also apparently sifting through some buggy code in the back of my mind. I had this flash of exactly the lines I had written incorrectly earlier in the day.
Time to fix a bug.
