I usually use my cloth pads as backup but this month I didn't. I wanted to see how my flow was with just using cloth pads. I found out a few things about my period and things I forgot. And having tight underwear really DOES help.
When is it appropriate to change cloth pads? I remember reading somewhere that it's when it's wet. But everytime I'd go to the bathroom, it'd feel wet/cold even barely full/used. I'd have one of those pads with the foldable bottoms and it wouldn't even be through a layer or two but it would feel wet. I know someone said change just like a disposable, but unless I was heavy, it'd be once a day cause I used overnights no matter what.
How do you determine the capacity of a cloth pad? Is it the number of layers/fabrics/size?
Would using pads that don't have stitching through the entire pad help prevent leaks? I found that I'd almost have a leak/small itty bitty leak at the stitches on some pads like that.
My period seems to go down into a pad very little (like one-two layer) and then start to spread. But by the time it spreads, it feels wet against me and icky. Would a different fabric topper help? Do brand new pads need to be "broken" in on how much they will soak? Some of the pads I made didn't seem as absorbent. I prewashed and all that.
On heavy days, how many pads do you go through? Do you wash yours throughout your period or do you have enough for your entire shebang?
Thanks!
