I've been thinking about getting cloth pads for years, to use as a backup for my Keeper and at night, but the high price has held me back, largely because I was afraid of shelling out for something and then not liking it. So when GladRags made their free pad offer a few weeks ago, I jumped at it. I got my pad a few days ago, and that same day, I started my period.
I am VERY happy with the GladRag! It was so cozy, like wearing only panties. No crinkling, crumpling, or weird shifting like with a disposable pad. It's a normal pad, but I wore it with my thong underwear. I found that getting it situated was tricky until I pulled my panties up, then it stayed in place and was comfortable. So you can wear a normal pad with a thong, and I actually recommend doing that to avoid leaks.
The second day of my period is always heaviest, so that is the day that I wore it as a backup. Sure enough, I overflowed my keeper and bled all over the pad. It was super-absorbent! I did not feel wet or uncomfortable; I just felt as though I had been sweating or leaking a little bit of fluid. I was amazed when I saw how much fluid was on the pad- it was really surprising how absorbent and comfortable it was, even with only one liner inside. There was no leakage.
I soaked it in cold water overnight and washed it the next day in warm water. No staining whatsoever!
I liked it so much that I am going to stop using my Keeper at night and wear only a cloth pad. My Keeper usually leaks when I sleep so I always need a backup- I might as well skip the Keeper since these pads are so absorbent. I am really pleased. The free pad promotion was what I needed, to take the risk out of trying cloth. I can't wait until my Perfect Pad comes. I will definitely be purchasing and making some pads in the future.
