Title: Marauding Till the End
Characters: Remus Lupin, James Potter, Sirius Black, mentions Tonks
Rating: Any age
Disclaimer: You know I don’t own the Harry Potter series because if I did, I wouldn’t be writing this.
“Nyphadora?” James says in a tone that suggest he’s been struck by a great sense of awe. “Nyphadora Tonks? Ted and ’Dromeda’s baby?”
Remus shuddered. “She’s rather not a baby anymore, James.”
“Remus, you old dog!” James exclaims, clapping his hand on Remus’ back and they walk together, Remus with his hair, longer and without a hint of grey, without the scars, without the age lines. And Sirius.
“That’s not the best part though, Prongs,” Sirius grins like the devil himself as he slings one arm around James’ shoulder and the other around Remus’, pulling them up next to him. “Remus here, and my cousin, good show by the by, they made lil’ Moony, Prongs. ”
“Phwoar!” James bellowed, casting a look equal parts shock and admiration Remus’ way. “Never knew you had it in you, mate.” Then, as the grin fades into something more significant, “He’ll be fine, you know.”
“Course he knows,” Sirius’ unusually cheerful voice punctuates the unsaid bond of fatherhood between them. “We’ll be watching over the little pup, won’t we Moony?”
Remus smiles and falls in line with his friends, his companions, his Marauders, without a doubt in his mind that he did the right thing. Sirius is right, though he usually is, in his own, strange way. Teddy will be fine because he will have all of them, plus his dear mum and his granddad watching over him, and he will never know what it’s like to grow up in a world of prejudice and pain. Remus smiles to himself as he boards the Hogwarts Express for the very last time.
“C’mon,” Sirius says, tugging Remus’ sleeve. “I’m starved. Hey Prongs, you think that same old bat’s pushing the trolley?”
