So since school...
We moved home on Saturday.
Sunday, I met Nate's maternal grandmother. She's one of those abrasively maternal people...where she's not smothery, she just takes care of what you need and moves on. She's also very Catholic, but luckily the "my religion" card didn't come up. Also, I was very careful to cover my tattoos. No bumps in that road.
We did some rough sorting that night before bed. I needed to get a good night's rest to start my internship in the morning!
Monday, I went to my internship. I was wicked nervous...the first day of my first big girl job. I forgot to pack a lunch and ended up spilling orange juice all over the kitchen. But Nate's the best ever and was going to bring me lunch and cleaned up the orange juice mess. Right when he was going to be bringing me lunch, though, I got out of work. Anyway, at work I got my schedule essentially for the whole summer and got some projects to start working on.
We also went to see Nate's paternal grandmother in the hospital. She had her larynx removed because it was completely taken over by cancer. So she breathes through a hole in her neck now. I expected her to be a lot more machine-d up, if you know what I mean. She wasn't though, and she was in a pretty good mood considering the circumstances and her usual disposition. It was nice.
Monday was also Mama Magnuski's birthday. Nate and I surprised Mama Mags with a plant at work (Gaillardia...crazy looking.
). We also took her out for dinner at Not Your Average Joe's. They had pizza and I had absolutely divine vegetable ravioli - spinach, mushroom, and cheese stuffed. Man...
Okay, so Tuesday. I worked from home and also drove around working on a grant. I had to run around pretending to be a tourist and asking people about the Wilbor House (where my intership is) and see how much they knew. Then Nate and I got the stuff to hook up the internet in his house and also stuff to make a carrot cake for Mama Magnuski's birthday (a day late). So he was the typical manly man and played with electronics, and I was the typical Susie Homemaker and baked a cake. Good one.
Today I went to work, then came home and booked my airfare home. For those Naperville cats who read this and give a damn, I'll be in town July 24th - July 31st.
So I lose track of time. I run out the door, and picked up James in Franklin. We were on our way to FSC to formally register me for my internship and also to do book buy back. I drove 100 miles in like...an hour and 15 minutes, including the detour to get James. Scary. So I only got $75 for my book buy back. But that was just the beginning.
I went to register, and had to fill out a million forms and get a bunch of signatures. And then I found out that it would run me around $640. WTF. Call Mom, anticipate cunt-baggery, and at first I got it. She started bitching about flying me home now, since there was no point in me being here. So I wig out. And then she says she'll call me back. James and I leave, since I can mail in my registration now, but I'm feeling very pessimistic. She calls back, and again I'm anticipating cunt-baggery. But she says that she was saving for something else, so as long as I can scrape up the last $50, I'm golden.
James and I got BK, and since I was having a money-related flip out, he bought my food. I <3 James. We also chatted about going to Canada, and he says that I'd only need like...$90-$100 to comfortably chill out in Quebec for the few days. Plus it's the last weekend before I start doing docent work (aka working during the weekend).
I need $150, stat. Then I realize that the skewks are coming this weekend...which sucks, until I realize that I can babysit for their bratty kids and bleed them for the $150. Hi. I love life.
