Tornadoes

A funnel cloud passed within 1/2 mile of the house last night. It went over the Wal-Mart, and they locked down the store. Ryan and I were in the back hallway with the doors all closed. Tina and the kids over there were in their hallway with a mattress over them. It was close. I'm serious. I didn't see it, but after the all clear sounded, the Union City Police Chief was on the phone with Fox 5, and they described it. It followed the road right down the street from us. I heard them describing on the news that a "possible rotation" was passing over highway 29 (or 92? It confuses me) and 138. It was there, but that one didn't touch down.

Danny Campbell is father to a good friend of the family. I've met the guy a few times, but right at this point in time his name escapes me. I want to say Glenn only because of the singer. Well, Danny's house was tore up. The front has a tree laying on it, the back half is still standing but it's missing walls. There's large sections of roof missing. He had a barn right next door to the house where his daughter lived. It had an apartment above it. Gone. Totally gone. He puts those mounds of hay in his yard for the winter and paints jack o'lanterns on them. These mounds are at least 1,000 pounds each. It was picked up and slammed against his house. Tina and I drove by when we heard it on the news. 1/4 mile down the road from his house was a utility pole, snapped in half. Neighborhoods down the road from him and up the road from him also had signifigant damage.

Oy. What a New Year!
