iPhone Friday

So I geeked it out yesterday and stood in line for an iPhone. Yes, I was one of "those guys". I'm lucky in that my boss is a bit of a techno toy geek as well, so he gave me the go-ahead to go stand in line.

Got there at 7:35, finally got my phone at 11:15 (ugh). It was actually somewhat amusing talking with the other people in line about the absurdity of the whole thing we were doing. A couple of the people were there off work and were agonizing over meetings they had to be at. One guy behind me had a meeting at 11 and his boss called him to say "if you're not at this meeting you're fired." Poor guy got up to 8th in line then had to cut and run.

I was 62 in line when I started, they came out saying there were only 60 on hand. For a while I didn't think I'd get what I wanted, a 16gb in white, of which they had 20. Funny thing is, it seemed like NOBODY wanted the 16gb white, because by the time they got back toward me they had 5 of them left, and most of the people ahead of me wanted the 16gb over the 8gb.

So anyhow, I got it. And its great. Unfortunately I had to get a new phone number to do it. I've still got 10 months left on my Helio contract so I'm doing a switch with Chi where we're moving her number to my Ocean and she's taking over that phone. I can't take my current number off the account since that'd cancel the contract, however stupid that is.

I liked my Ocean, it was really good at what it did, just too much old style cell phone about it. And I'd gotten tired of carrying too much crap around in my pockets. The Ocean isn't a small phone by any means, its actually quite thick. Between that, my keys and my iPod it was just a hassle.

I sent out text messages with my new number, and I'll be sending an email out to people shortly. If you don't get either and wany my new number drop me a line.
