THE NUMBER ONE REASON NOT TO BE IN A PLAY!

Apr 25, 2006 16:32

Because you'll get in Theatre I your freshmen year, and realize that you love drama. You'll look for every opportunity available that involves acting. You'll get a toboggan that says "Thespy", a hoodie with "OMHS Theatre" on it, and even put the drama masks on your class ring. You'll go to competitions and do good in some and not so good in others, but it will be ok because you learned a lot, even if you didn't do so hot. You win third place in state for you duet reader's theatre, and get superiors in everything else with the help of your friends, who also happen to love theatre. You'll get to the end of your second year of theatre and have already signed up for you third when you get put in a "play" called 15 REASONS NOT TO BE IN A PLAY. You won't mind at first, seeing as everyone gets pretty equal parts, and it's an ensemble, so no one can complain about their roles, really. Then you begin to realize that the word "play" does not describe the end of year show you're putting on. Real plays have plot, setting, characters, and the show you're putting one has none of the above. All year you've written down vocab. word after voacab. word trying to understand the parts of technical theatre, and answered a jazillion questions to improve your acting technique. Then, how do you get to show all that you've learned all year? In a show that tells people they shouldn't be in a play. If it were funny, it would be a different story, but not one of your audiences has laughed. You get embarassed by the whole thing, and never want to get on stage again, which totally ruins your career as an actor. So, to be on the safe side, never get in to theatre so your love for it can't be smashed by some ridiculous show called 15 REASONS NOT TO BE IN A PLAY.

...:::EDIT:::...

Ok, so tonight's show wasn't as bad as I predicted. The audience actually laughed! So, all in all, it really wansn't that bad of a show. No, I would not want to do it again, but I think it was an ok thing, and like they say, what can't kill you only makes you stronger.

WAA, STINKY PLAY, YUCKY PLAY, NO PLAY, WAA!

LOL-- Meredith and Melinda sounded hilarious... they were made for those parts!

Good job Theatre II!!!!
