Today is the finals for the Eurovision 2011 Song Contest and I spent most of the morning watching the songs for all the countries.  This is a wise way to spend a lazy Saturday morning.

The Bosnia & Herzegovina song is one of my favorites. There was just something about it that made me feel happy.

Ireland’s duo are adorable.

Finland’s entry was a bit PSA and preachy.

Albania’s song is worth watching just for the video.

I don’t understand Portuguese so I really have no idea what is going on in Portugal’s entry. It seems political, maybe…

A lot of songs were of the pop song variety or sounding like a divalicious ballad, which didn’t really interest me. Also most of the songs were sung in English, which really highlighted some of the more simplistic lyrics, at least to my American ears. I enjoyed more of the songs that were in the countries’ native languages since I really had no idea how complex or simplistic the meanings were.

I don’t have much invested in the outcome of this contest, but it does make me wish we had something similar on this side of the world as it seems like a lot of fun.
