Now that things have settled down a bit, I need to get back on a cooking schedule (instead of randomly grabbing whatever I can, wherever I can).
What are your favorite meals to make? Especially cheap and healthy and tasty things. Things that can be frozen in portions for easy meals to reheat would be a bonus.

1) Get some beans--not in a can, but the cheap, dried kind that you have to cook forever.
2) Cook them forever. (I use 1 part beans and 3-4 parts water, and simmer them for a few hours. They'll cook in an hour and a half if you soak them overnight first.)
3) Add some spices so it's not gross: lots of salt, (cayenne) pepper, cumin, and (I recommend) garlic powder.
4) Add whatever vegetables you can afford: definitely tomatoes, green peppers, onions, fresh garlic, canned corn, whatever.
Voila! It's chili.
5) Get some rice or tortillas to eat it with. (I recommend rice because it's cheaper.)
I also tried making some soup last week that turned out pretty delicious except it was a bit burnt because House was on:
1) Cut up some potatoes into little cubes about the size of dice or a bit smaller.
2) Put them in a pot with just enough water so they're all submerged, and cook them on medium until they're soft.
3) Add some broccoli and some milk (optional) and let it cook for longer, depending on how soft you want the broccoli.
4) Add a packet of broccoli soup mix and stir well so it doesn't clump. (So, uh, this is the cop-out step. I'm looking for other ways of doing it all from scratch--maybe using garlic and onions to season it and flour to starchify? Or even real corn starch? I'm not sure.)
5) Stir occasionally while the starch does its chemical reaction stuff to thicken the soup.
6) Eat with toast.
Also, there's always spaghetti. And canned tomato soup. And hot dogs. I ate hot dogs about four nights a week last year and never got sick of 'em. Mmm.
