Finally found time to begin reading these latest entries - and this one has already drawn me in - absolutely WONDERFUL!

I hate to admit it here ... but, I've never read The Similarion - have read the trilogy and The Hobbit several times, but never any of the other books ... must do so SOON! :) :)

That's great to hear! This is rather peculiar even by my standards -- it's great to hear you like the look of it. ^^

I can't blame you for not having read the Silmarillion; it's not the most natural text in the world. The number of people whose names begin with Fin-- or C-- is kind of maddening! I'm not sure how much canon-knowledge will be necessary to make sense of this story: the Journal proper is based on a version that isn't in the Silmarillion anyway and then there are the critical notes...
