After misspelling an "ie/ei" word on three separate occasions today I'm curious....
We're all intelligent people with admirable writing skills...so what are your grammatical/spelling banes?
As noted, I still misspell words with the ei/ie combination; I've only just broken myself of spelling "weird" wrong by thinking of it as "weeee-urrrd" and remembering that it's "we" rather than "wi." The consistently-used words like receive and conceive I can manage flawlessly, but it's the *backwards* words like wield and chief and thief that I screw up 9 times out of 10. Words with lots of double letters throw me off sometimes, too. "Committment" comes to mind.
Grammatically, I use way too many commas, like this, when I want to emphasize something and, thus, make fifteen appositives in a sentence and end up with a comma splice somewhere in the mix. This is why I *love* dashes for breaking up the monotony.
