So, I missed class (again) today. I am a boob! A major boob! It's so hard to take myself seriously these days!
My head is a little better, it would probably be even better if I moved about more. Cognitive therapy for me is reading, writing, and using the computer... so I'm doing all of that, but my brain hurts. I think cognitive therapy is supposed to be a series of relatively easy tasks that allow your brain to reconfigure, so maybe C++ isn't really what they meant. But, two weeks left of school- GAH! and I still can't go to all my classes, so I at least need to be studying! But when I study for even 45 minutes, my brain gets so tired that I start seeing double! So, I've spent a lot of my week browsing the internet between 5 minute bouts of staring at what I should be studying. I feel utterly and completely useless :-(
I met Speed yesterday. He's an appendix ex-racehorse, 14, just over 15 hh, who's had three years off. His owner has had him since he was 2, she worked at the track where he raced and bought him at the end of his short career. She's in grad school and hasn't had enough time to ride, so I get a new friend! He lives on 'the back 40' of a tourist trail ride ranch next to White Ranch open space, so to ride him I have to fill my car with tack, then drive into the pasture and search, cuz 40 acres is a lot of land and 8 horses is a small herd. SOOO glad I bought a Subaru! Yesterday the herd was standing at the top of the first hill, but I hear they usually aren't so easy to spot and are very fond of walking into the middle of the natural spring and hanging out knee deep in the pool. Boo. Anyhow, my current mission is to get him shod up front and trimmed behind. His feet are surprisingly good for all the TB in him and having not seen a farrier in three months, but they're long and a little dinner plate-y in front. He's VERY smart and responsive on the ground, but I didn't ride yesterday and I probably won't do a ton until he's seen the farrier.
He's still an ex-racehorse, so I'm not sure how I feel about not having an arena but there are a few nice flat areas we can pretend on until I trust him enough to hack out on the trail. I'm hoping that because they rent horses, I can take other horsey people out with me sometimes! The area is beautiful, and the trails are supposed to be really, really amazing! Everyone around here hikes there, even with so many closer trails etc. I also think I can do some guide work in the summer, if all goes well, and make a little money :-)
Who wants to come riding???
