Actually, my birthday has been swell;
Best birthday I can remember!
My family and I spent the whole day together, just the four of us. It felt like the last chance to do this, with Katy leaving so soon... and I wanted to take advantage of it! We had krugel and cheesey eggs for breakfast; my absolute favorite meal! And I got everything I wanted! My sister is having a huge print made for me of her painting, 'Maui Wowie," which I have been trying to buy from her for years. My parents forgave me from all my debts to them, which is HUGE considering how much I've had to lean on them since highschool graduation! I can't even believe it, but it feels so perfect! I've come so far, thinking about filling the gaps was becoming real, but still looking impossible. Now I can keep the money I make, and maybe start paying my own way sooner than I thought I'd be able to! Gary called, and we talked for a long time. I love getting to chat with him, and it happens so rarely that I savor it when it happens. He and Juan sent me a package of organic chocolates, dried fruit, and unique teas. I really want to go visit them, and am thinking I will force Mike into a road trip in August; to see Andrew, Jen, and their baby (who's due around then), then see Jon, Alisha, Hailey, and Brianna on our way up to San Fransisco to see Gary and Juan, maybe driving back through Tahoe and seeing the Reno family, too.
Then we went to the aquarium, and had a really good time looking at all the fish, and all the families with small children. One little boy, maybe a 2 yr old, tottled up to the bull shark tank and screamed a very excited yet startled, "Woah!" as one swam by. Katy and I decided that it was the perfect reaction to the situation, as the shark was at least five times bigger than the kid, but also safely behind thick glass. Katy had heard that Catty, my albino, eyeless channel catfish that got too big for our 55 gallon, had been recently donated to the aquarium by the enthusiast who we'd given him to, because he was now too big for his 300+ gallon wall tank. We asked some staffers, but they said he'd still be in quarintine, so they didn't know. We did see some massive channel catfish, but they all had normal pigmentations, and eyes.
We had lunch at a really nice little French resturant downtown, and everyone legal had at least two big glasses of wine. The 'canard' (duck) with raspberry coulis was AMAZING, and the chocolate mousse was also completely decadent. Getting into the car prove problematic for my mom; she missed the door, and almost fell, with a quiet, 'oops,' (giggle) as she stumbled. Katy had to drive back to Boulder, which would have been easier for her if any of the rest of us was sober enough to give good directions. We were paying attention in spurts, at best, and I think between the three of us, we mostly just made her nervous and confused. I don't think she's ever driven I-25, so... good chance to learn, I guess.
Back at my parents', I spend an hour reading the first seed catalouge of the new season, and got excited about my over-elaborate plans for a patio garden. Also, had a nice conversation with Mike, who's apparently not feeling very well, poor guy, and is being subjected to a lot of family time. We don't often have good phone conversations, so it's nice to talk that long and hang up feeling really close and lovey.
Then we had homemade mac and cheese, which is deadly, and spice cake over a game of Scattergories.
Now, off to bed, happy and ready for my 23rd year of life (right- if I turned 22, this starts year 23?)
