Hollow Fields scored a review in the June issue of Newtype USA, so if you happen to read the magazine, go check it out. It was positive overall, but honest about some of the book's hiccups - which is probably just the way I like it. It's always hard having the very first work you have published judged on the same stage as some very experienced mangaka, so I think overall it comes off looking pretty good (I hope!).
The art for the second book is already looking tighter, so I'll be trying to improve on some of the visual foibles that were present in the first volume. For one thing, I'm getting bolder with using blacks and not just letting the tones carry the detail. I'll admit that the one wincing moment I had reading the review was seeing the digital screentoning get a lot of praise - it's the one part of the art that I didn't do myself. :p But they're right - it is very good, and the tonist is a great worker. So hopefully I can back that up with more impressive linework the second time around.
Five copies of Hollow Fields are also featured as a givaway prize in the magazine, so if you're a resident of the United States, you get a shot at scoring a free copy!
EDIT: Review now posted at Gomanga -
