Moving along

On the weekend I was sent a double-page composite of the final cover art. And it makes me think - wow, this is really happening. It really looks like a book! It's got the little barcode on it and the company logo stamp and everything! And the designer really killed himself over the pattern on the back (you'll know when you see it).

So it's still coming out in June. Unfortunately, I believe it's late June, but that can't be helped. I just hope they changed all the typos and inconsistencies I noticed on the final readthrough. There's one in particular that renders a character's sentence entirely nonsensical, so I really hope they got that one...!

I finally got around to telling my parents that I quit the Library job to do the manga full time. I know it seems crazy to leave it for this long, but...well, I didn't know how they'd react, and my parents have a habit of saying things that are unintentionally discouraging. My mum seemed very taken aback last week, but by last night she was a lot calmer about it. Dad's view seems to be, "you have a lot of training, so if the worst comes to the worst you can always go and get a clerical job..." Er, thanks for the vote of confidence, dad!

Anyway, the third exhibition piece is nearly done, and I finally test-printed one of them. We went to Mid-City Camera World for starters because it was suggested as having the best printer. But the staff there were awful to deal with, and the price...let's just say that printing five of my coloured works for the exhibition at roughly A2 size would have been...$450! And that's before framing costs! After having a heart attack, we approached Stallard's Camera House instead, and their prices were much better. The test print looks good too, although my old scanner seems to have added some dust and speckles to the lineart. And on that note...

My scanner, which I had for five years since the first year in Tasmania, has died. RIP.

So now I need a new one...that's yet another cost. Gargh!!
