OOC: Two Surveys

Mar 25, 2009 17:01

Originally done over at docsgirl (well, one of them was), I'm reposting them here for completeness's sake. Yes, even after I did a 100-question meme earlier. There's a little new information, damn it!

First, Doc answers 14 questions in-character:

1. What would your character kill for? What would they die for? I’d kill or die for my friends. Back in Arcadia, that was simply Marty, but I’d be willing to do it for anyone I cared about. I’d also kill to protect someone else from the Fae. No one deserves that life.

2. What would they refuse to do under any circumstances? Why? I’d never sell anyone out to the Faeries or anyone like them. As I said above, no one deserves that life. They rip your humanity away until you’re nothing but a hollow shell. I’d rather die than do that.

3. What do they dream about? [Either literal or figurative, specify please.] My actual dreams - I don’t usually remember much of them, unless they’re centering around a specific invention I’m working on. Or if they’re a nightmare about what I suffered in Arcadia. . . .
For life goals, I’d love to own a working time machine. It’s been my dream for years now, and I’m determined to see it through. I just want one chance to at least see the Old West before I die.

4. What’s their biggest fear? Ending up like I was before I met Marty - amnesiac and Andrew’s - plaything. I swear, if that - that thing ever finds me again, I’ll figure out how to kill myself before he can take me back.

5. What single object would they be most hard pressed to part with? Why? That scrapbook I got for Christmas here in the Rift. Since I’ve been separated from Marty, it’s all I have to remind me of the kid. I don’t care that technically nothing in it should exist. It’s the one link to him I have left, and you’d have to pry it from my cold, dead hands to get it away from me.

6. What is their fondest memory? Coming up with the flux capacitor! Yes, so the story involves me falling off a toilet and banging my head. At least it amuses people. And the payoff will be worth it, in time.

7. What is their worst memory? I can’t just say “everything involving Arcadia,” can I? The absolute worst would have to be doctoring Marty as he was getting off Carlos’s joy juice - the kid kept crying for his family, and. . . . My first operation and subsequent run through the Hedge rank up there too. Being ripped apart like that - it’s the nastiest feeling in the world.

8. What or who was were their most significant influence? Expound. I would have to say Jules Verne. I of course never met the man in person, but it was his books that inspired me to become a scientist. The man had quite the way with words! 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was my absolute favorite, the one that convinced me that a life exploring the far reaches of science was the life for me. I also quite enjoyed Journey to the Center of the Earth, as my own unsuccessful attempt at the journey should prove.

9. What do they believe makes a successful life? Following your dreams to the end - in my case, finishing my time machine. Being happy with who and what you are. And finding someone to share your life with - both friends and romantic partners.

10. What makes them laugh? All sorts of jokes, though I have a soft spot for puns and the rhyming poem type. Especially the old “Little Willy” series. Admittedly, those were quite morbid, but in the most hilarious way. It’s too bad they fell out of favor.

11. What are their religious views? I classify myself as agnostic - I believe there’s a higher power, I’m just not sure any of the numerous religions we have has got it right. I was raised Christian (don’t ask me what type, we just went to church every Sunday and said grace before meals), but I stopped actively participating in any religious services once I was out on my own. Of course, what worries me these days is what God might be . . .

12. What is their greatest strength? I’m the type of person who says, “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything” and means it. I can be the most stubborn, determined person you ever met if I’m doing something I have a lot of interest in.

13. Do they have a fatal flaw? If so, what is it? I’d have to say my fear of Arcadia, and faeries in general. My reaction to the idea that my current life could all be a hallucination engineered by Andrew has led to a couple of - nasty incidents. Not helped by the fact I have weather control powers that respond to my emotions. And I have to keep telling myself that Fae from other worlds could be different from the ones I’m used to. It’s tough, sometimes, keeping an open mind. Luckily anyone and anything I’ve met so far that could be linked to them has been pleasant.

14. Who is the most important person in their life? No offense to any of my other friends - you’re all special to me - but it’s Marty. You tend to hold the person who, in essence, gave you your life back, in high esteem. If he’d never come around, I would still be in Arcadia, either dead or - or even less human than I am now. I owe him pretty much everything.

And second, 20 questions that seem to have a bent for sex, which means some embarrassment for poor Doc.

01.) Full name? Doctor Emmett Lathrop Brown

02.) Best friend? Marty McFly

03.) Sexuality? Straight male

04.) Favorite color? Orange

05.) Relationship status? Single

06.) Ideal mate? A fellow science wonk who likes Jules Verne and can stand him rambling on about his inventions or disappearing into the workshop for hours at a time.

07.) Turn-ons? Intelligence, quoting Jules Verne, labcoats on girls

08.) Last sexual experience? Couple days before Andrew made his fateful offer, Doc decided he needed some private time. Bought himself a new girlie magazine and some lotion and settled in for the night. Or tried to - before he could “do” anything, some neighborhood kids broke one of his windows. He had to chase them off the property and sweep up the glass before having his fun. Poor guy.

09.) Favorite food? Pretzels. Yeah, pretzels. He also really likes pancakes - basically started learning to cook so he could make those.

10.) Crushes? He had a thing for a lot of the cute girls they used in the Pepsi ads and in calendars. He really wishes he could have seen some of them in a labcoat.

11.) Favorite music? Classic rock and the 80s tunes Marty introduced him to.

12.) Biggest fear? A tie between losing his memory again and ending up Andrew’s test subject once more. Actually, both at once would probably be his absolute biggest fear.

13.) Biggest fantasy? Owning a working time machine and being able to visit all the eras he wants, particularly the Old West. Naturally said fantasy includes being able to bring his friends with him.

14.) Quirks in bed? Needing to do something with his hands. (No, not that! We’re talking about with other people.) He’s not the type to keep them still. Again, imagine what he could do with them. . . .

15.) Bad habits? Going off on tangents with lots of scientific words and concepts whoever he’s talking to might not understand. Also the tendency to disappear for hours (or sometimes days) at a time in his room when working on something.

16.) Biggest regret? Talking to Andrew about the flux capacitor. He just wanted to share his big idea with someone, but he’s pretty certain that telling the Fae about that was the reason Andrew decided to kidnap him.

17.) Best kept secrets? Most of his experiences in Arcadia. He’s told only a few people about the operations in any sort of detail, and hasn’t really told anyone about the fact he had to build other machines for the Fae, or some of Andrew’s other experiments (like being exposed to Fae hallucinogenics). Mostly because those experiences were some of the worst of his life, and he doesn’t want to share with just anybody.

18.) Last thought? Will probably be “Well, that wasn’t supposed to happen.”

19.) Worst sexual/romantic experience? Being dumped by Jill Wooster on-campus, after she revealed she was just using him and had been cheating on him with his worst enemy. Doc swore off relationships for a long, long time after that day.

20.) Biggest insecurity? This ties into “biggest fear” in a major way - worrying that his experiences in Chicago are just one big hallucination. . . . He also worries he’s kind of useless in the long run and that his friends don’t really need him. (Sheesh, no wonder he bonded with Victor in the headspace. . . .)
