Let's make learning fun (no seriously_

Dec 30, 2010 16:24

So I'm currently studying for the GRE (bleh) and, in a fit of insanity, decided to try to make learning the vocab words fun. LavanyaSix and Attackfish have been doing mini prompts with the "Avatar 500" set, so I decided to do the same thing, only with the vocab words I'm studying.

Note that for this set, all are set in the "1000 lotus" verse.

1. Abscond
June shoved the massive ruby in her pack as she mounted Nyla, hundreds of sun warriors chasing behind her.

2. Aberrant
Yue watched the healers, in her weaker moments she almost with she was like the other girls, but duty demanded otherwise.

3. Alacrity
Ty Lee jumped up. “On it mister J!.”

Jeong-Jeong hated when she called him that.

4. Anomaly
Around the world, the sages and spirits turn southward. Something had changed.

5. Approbation
The majority of the letter was formal and dry, long dry praise talking of the glory of the Fire Nation, but the most important part for Lu Ten was at the end. In shaky, scratchy writing were two simple words.

Good Work.

6. Arduous

Katara wheezed, struggling for breath, and pulled herself up. She nearly collapsed in despair as she saw she was only halfway up the mountain.

7. Assuage
Nima held the man’s hand, she was a airbender, not a healer, but she wanted to do something to help the pain.

8. Audacious
“So they want to kill you?”

“Yup.”

“And you want to go visit them.”

“… are you insane!”

“I did it with you.”

Toph threw her hands in the air.

9. Austere
Against the gaudy, polished uniforms of the nobles, Aang’s robe stood out more than a thousand gemstones.

10. Axiomatic
“The other nations attacked us, we defended ourselves. Surely even you can see that?”

Aang paused. “They attacked the earth kingdom.”

Kuei sniffed. “We are the earth kingdom.”

11. Canonical
Pu-on Tim rubbed his temples, producing three versions of the same play was such a headache. Sometimes he wished he had just decided to stuck with producing it for one nation and damn the extra money.

12. Capricious
“On second thought, I am declaring it funny hat day.” Bumi replied.

Long Feng gritted his teeth. An insane person could be overthrown. A genius was at least competent. But an insane genius…..

13. Censure
Sozin turned. “You speak out of turn!”

Zuko “I-“ before he could finish, he caught his father’s eye. “I… apologize, and ask forgivness.”

14. Chicnery
Aang sighed . “Okay, you caught me, I was actually looking to awake the spirit of war, he’s said to lie somewhere in the mountains.

15. Connoissear
Piado took a small sip. Yes, this was defiantly the worst tavern piss he’d ever come across.

16. Convouted
Aang groaned. So how does burning a earth kindom outpost help promote peace.

Azula grinned.

17. Disabuse
“Don’t you get it? All the conflict is based on lies! .”

18. Discordant
Aang resolved to never again have ‘4 nations music night’.D

19. Disparate
Iroh sighed and shook his head. “I’m sorry, but the nations cannot coexist. I do not hate them, or the people, I simply know the truth.”

20. Effrontery
“Hi everyone.” Aang waved as the Fire Lord’s inner circle.

21. Eloquent
Ty-Lee liked Jeong-Jeong. He was always butter with the words, Ty Lee understood the aura’s, but couldn’t explain it to other people.

22. Enervate
Long Feng frowned as he watched the streets teaming with people, messy, undisciplined people who acted like there wasn’t even a war. His king bleeding heart sapped the strength of Omashu.

23. Ennui
“Ow! Toph! stop it.”

“What? I didn’t do anything.”

24. Equivocate
Azula smiled. “I won’t lay a finger on you.”

25. Erudite
Wan Shi Tong sighed. The tales were interesting, but he wished the had a little more sophistication.

26. Exculpate
Given the unexpected developments of the day of the comet, it has been determined that no guilt shall be placed on the commanders on scene.

27. Exigent
“Sir! Dragons are sighted at the northern gate.”

28. Extemporaneous
Alim always liked stories he made up on the spot the best.

29. Filibuster
Kuei sighed, surely this sand person couldn’t talk forever.

30. Fulminate
Iroh clenched his fist. “You speak treachery!”

“I speak survival.” Shouted Ozai.

31. Innured
Sokka sighed. “Look, I’m just trying to kill Aang.”

Song sighed. “That’s exactly what I said.”

32. Irascible
“And get me a new desk.”
Jee sighed, cursing Zhou’s temper.

33. Laud
“Hail Zhou, dragon of the seas.”

34. Lucid
The island was moving. Yeah, Aang either got hit harder than he thought or this was the afterlife.

35. Magnanimity
“But I tried to kill you.”

Aang shrugged. “Yeah, but so did everyone else.”

36. Martial
Aang sighed they could no more understand the concept of martial than a fish could understand water.

37. Mundane
Sokka sharpened his blade, something simple easy. No spirit, no questioning his tribe, just him and his blade.

38. Nascent
Sozin nodded. “Indeed, this rebellion must be crushed before it spreads.”

39. Nebulous
Mai hated spirits. “Start making sense, or I start throwing knives.”

40. Neologism
“You… you’re like a… a trickytar, a lying trycktar.”

41. Noxious
Song ground the plant, carefully making sure none touched her bare skin.

42. Obtuse
“So, Kuzon jumped from the ground onto the roof?”

“Yes.”

“So you think he’s an airbender?”

“Yes.”

“But he’s a firebender.”

“Exactly.”

“I don’t get it.”

"Arrrrgh"

43. Obviate
“My we must set up a defense against-!”

Bumi smiled“Don’t worry capn, already got it handled.”

44. Onerous
Even with waterbending, washing socks for a family of eight sucked.

45. Paean
Glory to the avatar. Born eternally, you smited the wicked and broke tyrants.
- Hymns of Yan, #31

46. Parody
Zuko thumbed the manuscript of Pu-on Tim latest play. After the comet, no one showed it any more, it’s depiction of the comet leading to the victory of the Fire Nation reading like some dark paradoy.

47. Perennial
Arnook smiled, seeing off the boys of the tribe as they took part in the first raid of the year, so that they can become men.

48. Perfidy
“Sir, the governor of new Sozin has declared his independence.”

49. Perfunctory
Koh lazily circled the knife girl. What a boring face, barely ever used.

50. Perspicacious
“Giant clumps of hair. All the grass in the area eated…. Katara, my keen hunter instincs tell me Aang went this way.”

“Oh really, I hadn’t noticed him fleeing this way five seconds ago.”

51. Prattle
Azula gnashed her teeth. Did this sandbender ever shut up?

52. Precipitate (adj)
Aang run through the battle, bounding over the ice walls, delivering a few blows here and there, but never stopping for a moment.

Precipitate (verb)
Long Feng clenched his fist, the cue couldn’t be happening now, he wasn’t ready, the city wasn’t ready.

53. Predilection
Lu Ten sighed. “Honestly father, I prefer berry juice.”

“Get out, you are no son of mine!”

54. Prescience
Long Feng and Bumi were in agreement over one thing. Trying to who what was currently happening was for lesser spy networks.

55. Prevaricate
Aang smiled. “I was just going for a walk, seeing the beautiful city.”

The bureaucrat let out a a sigh of relief. “Ah, I see, yes the upper ring is beautiful, isn’t it?”

“Yeah the upper ring is.”

56. Qualms
Even after having his father explain it to him, it still struck Zuko as wrong to sacrifice their own men.

57. Recant
Ozai’s face was impassive. “I’m sorry avatar, but circumstances have changed, there can be no piece between me and my brother, the rebellion must end.”

Aang glowered.

58. Refute
“And that’s why meat is, in fact better than vegetables.”

59. Relegate
“Jee, tell Zhao our engine is having trouble, and me must either delay the assault or go on without our ship.”

“Of course, Chang, tell Zhao we must either delay the assault or go on without the stormbreaker.”

60. Reticent
Though he could never tell anyone Arnook missed when Yue was quite, before she found her calling.

61. Solicitous
Azula turned toward Aang, hanging on his every word like a drowning woman.

62. Sordid
Aang coughed, the foul smell of the lower rings hitting his nostrils.

63. Sporadic
The governor snorted. “Don’t be silly, the Northerners are sporadic raiders, they would never stay. They lack the intelligence to understand rulership.

64. Squander
Aang watched the fighting below, as men and materials perished for a few faint strips of land.

The worst part was that afterwards, the commanders called it a victory. And they meant it.

65. Static
The two  watched the guru, in meditation of the last five days.

“You don’t think he’s dead do you?

66. Stupefy
“I don’t want to fight, I came to help you.” Aang announced.

It was several seconds before any of the court could formulate a response.

67. Stymie
“Don’t let them through, we must hold it until the wall until the comet ends. Hold the line men. Hold the li-”

68. Synthesis
“You need to have harmony between the nations. Sort of like me, when I combined the elements.”

“A bunch of hot gas?”

69. Torque
Lu Ten fell to the ground, trying not to barf. He was really getting to hate the Avatar, on a personal level.

70. Torluous
Both Long Feng and Bumi loved the maze. Long Feng because the reaction of people in it were fascinating, Bumi because changing the maze as they tried to escape was really, really funny.

71. Truclent
Azula sidestepped the Ax, and countered with a blast of fire to the white haired mgirls face

72. Veracity
Ozai sighed. “Son, you must learn to control your words.”

73. Virulent
Song held the clear liquid up to the light. “Be careful, a single drop can kill you.”

74. Voracious
Sokka’s assault was relentless. The poor meat never stood a chance.

75. Waver
Aang sighed. “and the worst part, the worst part? I… I actually wanted to, to join you. To finally have a side I could fight for. But I can’t fight for this, and I won’t.”
