1.) Honestly, that one was of my big problems. And one of the things I was working on when someone suggested the current version. That said I have a few ideas I planned to use.

3.)Mostly what is said on the post of the thread, I like evil AU's, what if everyone was evil? Honestly, I actually do enjoy morally ambiguous, difficult stories, so it was partially an outgrowth of that. It was also an outgrowth of an idea "what if Aang couldn't simply fight the big bad?". Because in the 1000 lotus verse, all taking down the Fire Lord would do is allow the other territories to grab more land.

A lot of the themes that evolved. Eternal war, everyone Zuko-esque, etc, were developed later. The base was two questions. What if every body was a bastard? And second, what if beating up the Fire Lord only made things worse?
