Historical Perspective, or Not

I've been reading back through my LiveJournal from the beginning these past few weeks...er, months and it's been an interesting journey filled with smiles, frustrations and not a few tears.  It struck me how valuable journalling can be, and that I'd like to do more of it.

Trouble is, these days seem so monotonous that there doesn't seem to be much interesting to write about, even to myself in ten or twenty years.

Weekdays: "Got up.  Went to the gym (or didn't).  Went to work.  Dealt with shit.  Came home.  Vegged.  Went to bed too late."

Weekends: "Got up.  Went to the gym (or didn't).  Worked my butt around the house on things that either needed doing or I felt like doing (mostly of a DIY variety).  Collapsed from exhaustion.  Went to bed too late."

Weekends have been spent getting the house ready for winter, taking advantage of the last of the warm days.  There's still some outside painting to touch up - trouble is it's on the side of a dormer on the roof, and nearly impossible to reach safely with any of the tools at my disposal.

When not working outside, I've been either tinkering with the truck (latest: the horn doesn't work) or building a colossal workbench in the basement workshop.  It will be something when it's done.  Since I wanted to use as much of the materials I have on hand as possible, and the last big carpentry project was a DECK, the legs are made of 6" X 6" posts, and the thing weighs probably 300 pounds.  It's got seven BIG drawers, a section that is 4' high (for standing while working), and an L- section that is 30" high, for sitting and doing fine work.  It's going to have a collapsible paint booth on one end, with an exhaust fan, so I can indulge my hobby of miniature painting (it's a hobby I hope to start again) and do other stinky stuff down there.  All I have left to do to it is apply a finish and assemble the paint booth (it will have removable side walls) and it's done.  Then I can clean up the room, in which are boxes and boxes of tools and stuff that will be stored in/on the workbench.

Eh, it was something to do.
