There's a house up the street from me that was paneled vertically with 1/2" tongue and groove boards that they are stripping off and throwing out, so I grabbed some and I'm using them to rebuild my side gate pergola. I'm planning on grabbing more because old cedar seems like it would be pretty expensive.
When I put it up in 2004, I imagined the pergola and the fence would all be painted white, and painted the pergola (the first part erected) before realizing that painting the entire fence would be a huge pain in the ass. This, this is what it looked like:

The intervening years have not been kind to it; when I took it down on Monday, all the oil-based paint had fallen off (leaving the primer) and it was covered in lichen.
Alas, I didn't take any pictures of its decreptiude. When it's all finished, I'll post pics of its rebuilt glory!
