There's a new face at Casa Pinkadero!
Meet Tilly!
...at least, we're pretty sure that's her name going forward.
We've been talking about getting another dog around here for a little while, Since Dillon died, Eddie has been acting a little strangely - he has been avoiding Clay like he was a mass-murderer or something. It's been frustrating and a real bummer for Clay, who loves dogs very much. To be singled out for avoidance is puzzling and painful.
One suggestion to fix the problem was to get another dog, so a few weeks ago, Clay started browsing around the websites of various rescue organizations that operate in Connecticut. He found a few promising-looking dogs, and by chance there was a "Meet & Greet" of one of them not too far away from us in Manchester on Friday evening, so off we went.
I wasn't expecting to actually come home with a dog, but since he'd filled out an application via the website earlier in the week (you apply to the organization, then inquire about specific dogs), all the paperwork was in order, so we were able to take her right home.
It's been a bit of a logistical nightmare. Fortunately, I have taken off the three days this week that aren't the Thanksgiving holiday.
Anyway, her name was Corrie via the rescue organization, but that simply wouldn't DO. You should have heard some of the names that have been bandied about for consideration. Olga, Farrah, Tater and Turnip were among them. It gets worse, believe me...
She's 10 months old, 33 pounds, and looks part Dalmatian, maybe, part Lab, and definitely some Basset hound (looka those ears!). She's 100% cutie, though. We're teaching her some basic commands, and in only two days she's completely figured out stairs. She's crate-trained, and goes there when she needs to feel comfortable or safe. She's very sweet, but shy with new people, so we want to start taking her places and exposing her to new people as soon as she's comfortable here, so she gets properly socialized. She's one of a litter of 8, I think, and they were together until as recently as a month ago, so she should be pretty comfortable socializing with other dogs, but the people shyness is something we're going to work on.
I'll be putting a bunch of photos and videos on Flickr for the amusement of all and sundry.
Here you can see how her 33 pounds compares to Eddie's 65!
Here is the aftermath of my photo in
my previous entry - I got up, and she sank down!
And now she's trying to bite the keys on the keyboard. Gotta go!
