I must be Brief

As the weather has warmed up, so begins Project Season 2014!

So, naturally, three days into it I hurt my back.

We're building a deck off the back of the sun porch, as a place to put the grill, some seating and, eventually, a hot tub. Step one is digging post holes for the footings that will hold the deck up. Each one is almost four feet deep, and there are EIGHT of them.

We rented a gas-powered two-man auger from Home D'Peau, to aid in this first step.

This being Connecticut, however, the auger was only good for a couple of feet in each hole before hitting more rocks than it could deal with (including one so large it had to be CUT UP), so many of the holes were finished by hand.

...which is where the back hurting happened.

More fun: Every hole hit water. If you pump the water out, the next day it is back. The water comes to within 12" of ground level; if it rains, the holes fill to the top. The work area has been a mud-bath since we started. I should sell spa treatments.

I hope to have some pictures of something other than mud and puddles soon...
