Well, we survived the holidays.
Actually, things were very mellow. I had nearly two weeks off, few obligations, and lots of hobbies to pursue. We went to a party or two, and threw one of our own, hosted my mom for a few days, and generally slouched about in our pajamas.
On New Year's Day we hosted a brunch*, with a nice mix of new and old friends. Our friend Rob brought over a game called "Cards Against Humanity" that is like the South Park of table games - inventive foulness at its best. My mother was appalled, and I was embarrassed,** but we had a lot of fun. No one was arrested.***
My annual winter project is under way again, but I'm actually close to finishing. I'll need to find something else to do in the winter, when I can't go and build giant things outside! The winter project for the past four years running is to re-upholster this pair of wing chairs that were in my parent's house as I was growing up - my parents bought them new in 1968, when they first set up house (they were part of a nearly-complete set of home furnishings for living room, dining room and bedroom - which cost $860!). Years of nicotine and pets had pretty much taken their toll by the early nineties, and they were replaced (and relegated to my attic). They have since been moved from house to house (and back and forth across the country), before I started working on the first one as part of a class several years ago.
The first one was finished last year (after being started in, what, 2010?). The second is going to be finished in the next week or two, if I have anything to say about it. The hardest parts of this second chair are now done; the rest should be a piece of cake. Further updates coming, as events warrant...
When these are both done, the living room is getting re-arranged, to include them. It will be a nice change.
Other than the above, not a whole heck of a lot is new. Work has been slow (finally, and THANK GAWD). Clay's good; school is out until next week. Dogs are good, apart from getting older. Aren't we all...
And we'll close with a picture of Eddie, having finished his elaborate interpretive dance:****

* It started out as Brunch, at about ten am, but everyone was having such a good time, we went right through dinnertime and ordered pizza!
** There's nothing like reading aloud the phrases "getting two dicks stuck in a Chinese finger trap" and "snorting coke off a clown's dick" to embarrass you in front of your mother.
*** Getting arrested is always a bummer at a party
**** The interpretation in this case being "read me that bedtime story again - you know, the one called "Bacon Goes to the City"
