When life is bugging me (as it is lately), I tend to DIVE into projects. Today I attacked the foyer, which has been in need of finishing ever since I rebuilt the front door frame SEVEN YEARS AGO and never finished.

I screwed up the trim around the door back then, and with everything else going on (the door project, the garage project and the furnace project were going on AT THE SAME TIME) that last bit of trim work just sorta never happened.

Fast forward seven years: the paint on the outside of the door has all fallen off, a case of mistaking Interior paint for Exterior paint. Much interior painting has been done in the intervening seven years, the only place on the first floor that has still to be painted is the foyer.

In the past couple of days I have removed the offending trim around the front door and redone it properly, Clay patched and painted the ceiling and we installed a new light fixture, and today I ripped out the closet door frame and adjusted it to account for the way the foyer has settled since it was built 78 years ago. The right side of the frame was almost half an inch lower than the left side - I lowered the left side to match.

The whole thing is put back together now, trim re-installed, nail holes filled, old paint stripped off, and it's ready for priming tomorrow. I even patched the wall inside the closet, which was a casualty of the recent roof leak.

By the end of the week, the foyer will be finished, finishing the project that I started back in 2003.

It's about time.
