Hi, this is probably going to sound incredibly annoying in a "you don't know me but I want something from you" kind of way, but...you don't know me but I'd like something from you.
No, really, I was just reading Cavemen Always Win over on your site and reached chapter 9, but alas the link isn't working over there and here you only started posting from 10 onwards. I was just wondering if you had that chapter anywhere else I could read it? Any other AtS sites etc. that you've posted it on? I mean, I'm going to skip ahead anyway because I love the story so far and it's too good for me to wait but I'd really hate to actually never read that chapter
( ... )
Ha, no, it's totally fine. I love hearing from people!
Alrighty, should work nowI was going to just give you the fanfiction.net link, but, apparently because I haven't been on there since the new design stuff, it doesn't have my line breaks when POV changes. So I brushed up on my html skills (which are very limited, but it's not like my site is gonna win awards.) and created a new page. The link above has chapter nine for you. I recommending reading the rest on LJ though because this site is so much more user friendly and it's far easier to read when all I have to do is copy and paste from word. Pretty sure everything from chapter 10 to 16 (which is where I have left that story) is here
( ... )
Thank you so much! (I'm always happy to aid in procrastination)I'll definitely read the rest on here, then, thanks!
I always end up way more annoyed at ff.net now than I actually thought possible. Line breaks never seem to work on there anymore and uploading takes forever with all the html fixing I end up needing to do. It makes me so grateful for lj.
I did know it was a WIP, or well, I knew when I came on here last night to ask for the chapter. Thought that made it all the more important to read every part of it that was available. Glad to hear you haven't abandoned it in your heart even if you've stalled on it. That would be an honest shame.
(And I know what you mean about people reading and asking for more and suddenly noticing just how long it's been since you actually updated when most of the time it didn't feel like that long at all.)
Thank you again and you're welcome (=P), now I'll just go and see what other adventures the two of them are going to get up to. ;)
ff.net is annoying. I've been avoiding it for years now. Which sucks, because Cavemen Always Win shifts POV all the time and that must be annoying for readers. Good thing it's backed up other places otherwise I'd be angry.
I have a few WIPs and I know it seems like I've abandoned them, but I still feel like I'll finish them at some point. At least I hope.
(I look at Cavemen Always Win and I'm like has it really been years? And my writing style has changed and it's all just crazy.)
I sort of miss this fandom. So much craziness has gone on in the canon/fandom of my new fandoms. I just remember the Spike/Angel fandom being so easy and nice.
You know, I did the same thing with ff.net, completely abandoned it for a while and then when I went back to post some fics for rare fandoms, the whole upload system had changed. And now, now it's just a pain to use. Oh I'm glad Cavemen is in other places too. ;)
I know what you mean about the fandom though, it was easy to read (because I never actually wrote for it at the time) and there was really no...fighting amongst the fandom, hell, even the Buffy-bashing within the Spike/Angel bit was all done in fun, when it was done at all.
It's really gone downhill. I know everyone whines about the protective features with the whole not trying to have minors on the site, but there needs to be more complaining about all the coding problems. It's bizarre.
I started out writing Buffy/Spike, my one and only het ship that I wrote for. The people I met were always pretty lax and cool. It was just about writing fic, you know. I wish I could go back to those days. The politics with fandoms is just so weird.
You're right. I just finished uploading a Bones fic and I think I actually growled at it at one point. It dissolved all my line breaks.
That's exactly it. That's what you want, really, for it to be all about the writing, the enjoying. I wonder what happened to fandom (in general) to make it so...complicated now?
By the way, I love that icon. The colours are gorgeous.
I haven't uploaded fic there in forever. I've heard all the compliants though. I'm grateful to it for being the jumping off point, but I can't use it for my new fandoms. Too much negative stigma, you know.
For ms, I know my level of involvement has increased, but I really think people are getting a little crazier too ;) it's not a bad thing, but sometimes the wank is just overwheming.
Thank you! You can snag if you want. It's one of the first icons made that I was really happy with.
Haha, you're a smart person to stay away. I think I go back there every now and again just to recapture that feeling when I first discovered the site as a child. I was so excited. Never quite feels the same though. ;)
Mmm, that's true enough. A little, shall we say; friction, can be good for discussion. Just not too much where people actually get personal with it.
Thank you! I'll certainly save it for another time, you should be happy with it.
(And damn, I just ran out of Ats/Bones icons to use here)
I use ff.net when a fandom is so obscure, it doesn't have communities on LJ, but that's about it. Like, every once in awhile I'll wanna read a Dawson's Creek fic and there doesn't seem to be any on LJ. I totally know what you're saying there, though. It's the same reason I go back there.
I've gotten really personal with canon before, to the point where I've been upset and disappointed, which I know is the risk we run. AtS/BtVS never did that too me. I want fandom to be an escape, you know, not all this friction. Which does not explain why I'm writing Supernatural fic right now. Though my little corner seems to be the less militant of the bunch.
I can never get rid of it. I know I don't have enough room (yeah, 120 icons and I don't have enough room.) and I'm not particular active in the fandom, but the coloring does look great. And it's my I'm relaxed icon.
(Here, have some Lorne. Technically I have some more AtS/BtVS ones, but there's no David in them. Or James. I used to have way more.)
It is still good for those obscure fandoms. Once you work through all the ones written by twelve year old girls (which I admit I'm hypercritically harsh of as I was around that age when I first posted things there, but still...I grew up and some of my old stuff makes me flinch too) you do find some real gems for those fandoms that you just wouldn't be able to find anywhere else no matter how hard you searched
( ... )
I think I was a little older than 12 when I started in fandom, but I've been writing fic for about 7 years now. I totally cringe at my stuff too. Sometimes I think the 12 year old stereotype is wrong, but it likes to prove itself right all the time. But you're completely right about ff.net. I've found some amazing stories on there that aren't any where else
( ... )
Haha, my first thought seeing your comment was: 'oh, DOYLE!'. I loved him. He was the perfect companion for Cordy and Angel. And I do love drunken Irishmen.
Torchwood broke me for a bit. God, did you see that coming at all? I didn't. I still expected Ianto to get back up again right until Jack beamed away at the end. Well, expected might not be the right word, hoped is probably closer. Was desperate for is likely more accurate though. ;) It was like they had to remind us that Torchwood isn't Doctor Who by, within two seasons, killing off almost all the characters. I haven't watched Atlantis yet, but a friend keeps telling me I must, but you know, I'm pretty sure she said something about not liking the last season or so. And Heroes...well, most of the time I have no idea what's going on, I just...go with it.
Haha, I'm with you there. There will never be enough icon space available.
Despite being out of the fandom for so long, I have two Doyle icons and the other one. I just can't get rid of them. I was so utterly sad when he left and then hearing that they had vague plans to bring him back for a bit and then Glenn died... it was all tragic.
For me, it was that Ianto's death seemed so very useless. They didn't really have a plan. Jack just went in there and started yelling and thought that was going to solve everything. That's a horrible plan, even for Torchwood. And Ianto didn't ever really get to be his own person, which was a total shame. They were just trying too hard.
Atlantis is good. Season five is what killed me. They started going OOC for one of my favorite characters and forcing him into this awkward relationship that didn't make sense. Heroes killed Nathan and I couldn't handle it.
One of my friends has like an insane journal or whatever and they get like 300 icons. I want to petition LJ for that or something.
Hi there, I am so incredibly sorry as to be so rude to interrupt your conversation here, especially as I'm a complete stranger, but I thought I might be of some help to you. If you ever want to read some Dawson's Creek fic on LJ, I run the DC Fic Archive - it's got links to exactly that :)
Found this comment on my search for more, in case you're wondering.
Sorry again, I'll leave you alone now and stop my pimping!
