Hakuba was sitting in his room all by himself, the sun was shining trough the large windows right at his open book. He looked at his clock, it was nearly the time.

He didn't had a good opponent since he left London, and his father was always working, so when Maxwell told him about how good he was at chess Hakuba couldn't resist it.

Maxwell had been to Hakuba's place before as a cat and having been world hopped there again was a tad jiggey that he almost fell over as soon as the agent got out of the portal. Having a keen memory, Max walked up to Hakuba's house and knocked, waiting for an answer. He hoped he had gotten there on time.

The doorbell chime rang throughout the mansion, and a milddle aged woman opened the door and saluted politely to the visitor. She motioned for the man to come inside, and began to lead him through the house towards the living room. A luxury glass chess board game was already on the table.

The woman informed Maxwell that his master was waiting for him nearly at the same time Hakuba showed up on the door. He dispatched her with a polite smile, and then offered his hand to Mr. Smart.

"Hello Maxwell. It's nice to see you in person."

Max eyed the middle aged woman with a stare, "When the tide is high, the moon is full." Giving her a counter sign forgetting he was off duty, technically and followed her inside after getting the wierd stare.

"Well, yes. I'll just make myself cozy while I -" Max was cut short when he saw Hakuba appear in the room.

Max took the hand offered firmly, "Hello, Hakuba.. san is it? Yes, it is good to finally see both of us in person."

As they parted his attention was drawn to the surroundings. "I never did get to say how nice a place this was last time."

"Hakuba is just fine." The boy informed him. "I suppose that the house looks different now that you're bigger than a kitten. I hope that Kuroba and Akako chan didn't bothered you much."

Hakuba gestured to the comfy chair near the table. "Please take a seat. Do you want anything? Tea? coffe?"

(OOC: lol Maxwell is amusing)

"Oh...." Then pausing to look some more. "Yes, and more colorful as well. Not at all. We just put on a little magic show. It was quite fun actually."

Taking in the house, Max almost forgot why he was there, "Of course."
As he took his seat slowly. "Coffee, fine. Thank you."

"A little magic show?" Hakuba raised an eyebrow. Kuroba's magics show weren't usually described as something 'little'. It was more in the line of 'crazy' and 'there's a dove on my hair again'. "That's relieving. I will tell Baaya to prepare some coffee, make you at home."

The blonde detective was gone and back in less than five miutes, and he sat in front of Max. He motioned to the board. "Your choice, black or white?"

"Oh, they just made me 'disappear'and 'reappear'."
And added, "Thank you."By the time Hakuba had come back to the chairs, Max had already taken out a cigarette and lite it, puffing on the nicotine, arm rested on the chair shoulder. "I hope you don't mind if I smoke."

At the popping question answered, "White." As he reached for a pawn to begin the game.

"I don't mind, my father smokes too." Hakuba smiled, and started his overture with a pawn of his own. "So, how are the thing doing on the... Greeting Card company maxwell?"

Max puffed on his cigarette for a moment, "Oh, you know. The usual. Everyone out of themselves..." Maxwell titled his head back and forth to make sure no one else was listening, "In fact... Just closed a case on a Spy Ring that was smuggling information to the 'other side'." As the agent moved another pawn with a cigarette between his fingers. "How about your work?"

Hakuba smiled slightly at Maxwell's antics, he was quite amusing and kinda endearing, if one was able to think of Maxwell as that.

"You should be really proud then." Hakuba looked at the table board and raised an eyebrow. Did maxwell just left his king off guard? It should be some kind of strategy he didn't knew. The blonde detective moved his bishop.

"I'm doing fine at school and with the usual work with the police. The case of the Phantom Thief, keeps being a pain for me."

"Why yes I am. I spent weeks on that case." However, Maxwell didn't mention he found the entire thing out by mistake, he just wanted a new pair of shoes.
The agent thought as he moved his knight.

"Ah." Inhaling a smoke for a moment. "I would imagine so. But like I said before..." Leaning forward towards Hakuba, "Evil never takes a holiday."

Hakuba automatically leaned near him, like they were sharing a big secret.

"And we never rest either." Hakuba moved his bishop. "check"

"No. We don't." Puffing a bit more. Max got all wide eyed surpised at the 'check' as he thought of his next move.
"Now, watch as I execute a move from which you will be unable to escape after this the game will be over." Moving a piece.

(Sorry for the late comment >.> and that mainly means you won the game XD)

And Hakuba looked. He kept looking even when Max was done with the movement, because he couldn't really believe that the other man just moved the king in front of his bishop. He raised an eyebrow in confusion and moved his piece.

"Uhm..check mate?"

(no rush <3 I'm always late too. AND lolXD)

Max's eyes where as big as plates, followed by a pause.

"Actually, now that I think about it. That wasn't the move I had in mine. But I lost fair and square."

Hakuba looked at him apologetically.

"I distracted you with the talk. But don't worry, that's just the first one." He moved the the pieces to their correct order. "So, how are the things going with Miss 99?"
