[Bleach] Those Days, The Years Unlived

Dec 03, 2005 22:21

I had a driving appointment from 2:00-4:00P.M. today. I was practicing how to park the car between two cars in a parking lot, and I found it rather confusing. There were so many things to pay attention too--and guess what Peradis did! That's right: confuse the brake and the accelerator, therefore moving the car forward like wh0a when she was supposed to stop. If my instructor hadn't pressed the brake on her side, I might've hit the helpless car next to me. x__x

As of right now, I'm currently chatting with the crew of deathonly and loving it. Why didn't I go on Y!M earlier? XD I've met all kinds of awesome people. And the crack we've spread is beyond imagination! (Mayuri/Kuukaku, anyone?)

Anyway. This is a fic dedicated to EREE (autophanous)! Happy belated birthday. I wrote this for you, but I'm still nervous, because well, you're like the goddess of Isshin/Masaki fics. *_* But yes. Here it is.

“Those Days, The Years Unlived”
Series: Bleach
Rating: PG
Characters: Isshin/Masaki
Disclaimer: Kubo Tite created Bleach.

The day is bright on the day of their marriage. There are no clouds (no, nothing of the sort) so the sky is blue and flickering green. It’s not such a big event; some friends are here and there, smiling for them, watching the hem of her dress fall onto the grass. The air of the forest blows through and ruffles his messy hair into a nice shape. Isshin grins.

“Who would’ve thought?” he says to her.

She tucks her hand in his arm, and they begin to walk down a path together. “Whatever do you mean?”

He chuckles. “Don’t tell me this isn’t strange.”

“Hmm?” She questions. Her eyes blink up at his, somewhat in a mischievous manner.

“Kurosaki Isshin, marrying the beautiful, heavenly sensation that is Masaki. It isn’t possible.”

She just laughed, a longing sound. “Then you’d better believe it.”

.

Her kisses are warm from the breath; her fingers, cold in the winter heavens. They tumble upon the snow on earth, their hair stained pure white. She grins up at him before burying her face in his shoulders, her arms around his neck.

He childishly smiles against her cheek. He’s already got his ticket to heaven.

.

As she and their children are the greatest happiness in his life, the greatest regret ends up hitting them the hardest-the day he loses her, the day he’s unable to keep her alive, is the doom he brings upon himself. He hides it and ends up throwing it all away. A regular doctor is all he was grown up to be, after all. No need to jeopardize his family any longer.

A few years later, as Isshin tucks his three children into bed (Ichigo, complaining he had enough energy and grumbling; Karin, brushing it off with a ‘whatever’; and Yuzu, who always misses her mommy), he ponders back and swims into the sea of their past.

Masaki hadn’t been there to see the proud look upon Ichigo’s face: “I beat him up, I finally did.” She hadn’t seen how well Karin could read or tasted Yuzu’s cooking (beginner’s luck, the little girl called it, but the daddy thought otherwise).

All the things they could’ve done-a family trip, maybe, to another city-and all the memories they could’ve made are now simply fragments of his shattered imagination. He finds it sad, an eloquent thought.

He sits atop the roof of the house tonight, facing the moon in its full beam. Somewhere inside that light, he sees Masaki.

The End.

This pairing was challenging to write. I hope it turned out to be okay! Comments and concrit are always appreciated. <3
