We got snow over the weekend--snow and freezing rain. To get to work on Sunday morning, I had to scrape the ice off the car. Then, at work, I spent the first hour of the day shoveling the walk.

Whee.

I'm not a big fan of snow. I don't ski, snowboard, ice-fish, or snowmobile. Mostly, Katie and I sit inside and grumble about hating the weather. Complaining is our winter sport.

Some of my friends (Chloe, I'm looking at you...) say that they like snow and/or miss it where they live now. I lived in Georgia for four years in my teens--Georgia, where two inches of snow is enough to close down everything but emergency services--and loved it. No shoveling, no parkas, no "hat hair", no slush, and no frostbite. Oh, and no $160 heating bills.

The bottom line is: while I might like to visit winter once in a while, I have no desire to keep it a part of my life. Especially not when winter begins at Thanksgiving and runs through April. If we had the money, we'd move. We wouldn't necessarily move to a Sun Belt state (the summers can be brutal), but we'd like somewhere with a more balanced climate.

Truth to tell, the more I hear about Connecticut, the more I think about it. It's still well-forested and green, has a liberal political climate, and is closer to several of my friends (some of whom actually read this journal). Perhaps somewhere near Hartford, as that's about halfway between NYC and Boston, has a major airport, several universities, public transit, etc.

Maybe when I sell my first couple of books...
