So, yesterday, I got to attend the Bankruptcy Bar luncheon that the Orlando chapter has every month. The bankruptcy partner, Roy, took me and introduced me to people, which was very nice of him. BEfore going, he asked me to write some trivia questions on the Bankrutpcy Reform Act (which I'm learning and doing Power Point presentations on). The food was good, and it was nice to see what those folks are like. Afterwards, I got to go to my first hearing. It was itneresting, but nothing really happened. The judge ended up pushing her ruling on the different motions until July to give the other side more time to amend filings and such. Took almost 2 hours though, because the guy we were going after has, like, sooo many adversaries. He represents himself (he's had a year of law school and he's extremely intelligent) and seems to be a professional litigant. He just goes around suing ppl that he thinks have done him wrong. So I'm sitting at the table with Roy (who was representing Sprint), the attorney represeting the guy's ex-wife, and an attorney representing the government (cuz the guy was suing the DNC). Oh, and a trustee was behind me watching all of this since the guy is a debtor. I got to see Roy in action though, and he's good.
On the walk back from the courthouse, I was almost hit by a car. We were at a crosswalk and had the "walk" signal. But there was this woman in the right lane who was trying to make a right on red turn. But I guess she wasn't paying attention to the pedestrians right in front of her. So, she suddenly moves forward. I was closest to the car (literally, it stopped 2 inches from my kneecaps). I did a Dustin Hoffman move (from "Midnight Cowboy") and put my hands on the hood of her car, banging them to get her attention. Roy was just yelling "whoah! whoah! WHOAH!" over and over. Thankfully, no one was hurt or anything. Roy kept asking me if I was alright (I think he thought the car actually made contact with me because it was soooo close). The driver was this young woman who was totally freaked out and apologetic. Phew! Roy felt bad because he'd sorta given me the go-ahead to cross because he thought he'd made eye contact with the driver prior to our crossing (but she was wearing sunglasses). That would have been funnyfor Roy to tell people upon coming back to the office ("sooo, about our summer associates...we're down to one cuz I got Christina run over"). ;)
The window washers just went by my office, dangling on harness in mid-air, 14 stories above ground (more like 16ish since the lobby ceilings are soooo TALL). I could never do what those guys do for a living. Hmm, I wonder if they could see me (dunno if the windows are shaded enough...).
Ok, back to work cuz I got a TON and I wanna go to Tallahassee this evening since this weekend is Father's Day.
