Was it worth it?

Took my last final today...Civil Procedure. Man, that test was awful! I can only take comfort in the fact that most people thought it was awful too. Heh. I'm especially frustrated because there was this one subpart on an essay question that asked for the best strategy to dismiss a particular claim. Well, I don't know the first thing about how claims for property work when it comes to insurance companies. So I wrote something about how a Rule 17 dismissal might work because the plaintiff might not really be the party at interest since she got the insurance for her missing painting. But I concluded that she probably was the party at interest because she wants the painting back from the defendant, not the value of the painting (I figure the insurance company could then assert a claim against her to recuperate the money or she could assign her claim to the insurance company). I didn't realize that when you accept the insurance, you actually do give up your legal right to claim missing property. So, yeah, the more I think abuot it, the more I believe that Rule 17 was the correct answer. Of course, me being me, I only mention it in my answer, but then dismiss it. And knowing my prof, he's going to say "well, she had the right idea, but she applied it wrong...no credit, too bad!"

Grrr.

Anyway, enough about that. I'm done with my first year. I learned tons, no doubt. But it can be so aggravating sometimes. Got my legal writing and advocacy grade. B+, even though my raw score was 95%...ya see, the writing profs only give out 3 or 4 A's per section...and my section happens to be the most naturally talented and competitive in the first year class. So, while I saw some of my colleagues with lower raw scores in other section getting A- or B+...just makes me grit my teeth. I take comfort in having a perfect score on my oral argument. Anyway, probably won't get the rest of my grades until the end of the month, which is just fine by me.

After my last exam, I attended the outdoor party thingy. They had pizza (from Athens Pizza, yay) and champagne, and beer. The champagne was all out by the time I got there, so I grabbed a couple slices and a beer (though I only drank about half of it). Later tonight, there was an end-of-the-year party at East Andrew's in Buckhead. I planned on going, and Brandon said he was going to try to go, but he'd probably go early and leave early since he was tired. I coordinated with Vonna that she, Melanie, and I would split a cab and head out around 10:30 or 11:00. So, I talked to Vonna around 9:30, and she said Melanie could be ready by 11, so could I get a cab for that time. Ok, no problem. I had made it clear to Vonna that I was starting to feel tired, so I really didn't want to after 11, since I would get tired by that point and probably wouldn't want to go out. She said, yeah, I know, blah blah. Come 10:45, Vonna calls to say Melanie won't be ready until 11:30. So, I decided not to go.

While I wasn't exhausted beyond belief, this was more of a principal thing. This is probably the third time that Melanie has done this (in the range between 30 minutes late to an hour and a half). I'm not generally one to get pissy at others for running late (I do that all the time). But when there are cabs involved, and all that other crap (in some instances, I've been the driver waiting in the car for 20 minutes), it just gets on my nerves. And it's not like Melanie has a good reason, she just procrastinated too long before starting to get ready. In fact, every time I've gone out with Melanie, she's never ready. I think Vonna will chew out Melanie for this, cuz it gets on her nerves too. Yeah, yeah, I am the one who ultimately ends up staying home for putting my foot down, but I don't want to go out when I get in a tired, pissy mood. Especially when most of the people I would hang out with at the party would be leaving shortly after I got there.

Besides, I should sleep and all that, especially since I have tons of errands I need to get done tomorrow, and going out would probably lead to not getting up until the afternoon, hehe. I need to find a storage space for the summer, hit the bank to get a new check card (my debit card expired at the end of April), go to the gym since I missed yesterday and today, and get packed for my weekend trip to LA. Speaking of which, got an update from Nicole, and she confirmed that the studio has put us on the VIP list, and Chris himself actually cleared everything with security so we can go straight to the stage after the taping to hang. Sweeeet.

Need to call my UCLA buddies tomorrow also, just to set up a time to meet on Saturday and such. Probably won't have a chance to check out the Getty (I loooooved it when I visited in March 2004), but it'll be fun to hang out in Westwood. :)

I'll see if they wanna hit any of the spots Tracy recommended (thanks chica).
