An amateur review:

Not the best movie ever made. ;)

Oh, wow. Being a fan of movies about the Civil War (eg. North and South, the Blue and The Grey) I was mildly excited about watching this, even though I knew how old it was.

Holy cow, bad movie. However, Clive is so cute I had a grin on my face the whole time. It's written terribly, the direction makes no sense, and it just. ends. Like, the only battle they show is Bull Run - and then the writers leave all these questions unanswered - although they do explain what befell some of the main characters in a scroll at the end. How about just showing it???

Clive is very young and doesn't have a huge part - but he's in at least a third of the film. His love interest is Laura Linney, who plays a Southern widow, and Clive's character Devon is supposed to be Irish but yeah, he sounds like he's from London most of the time. He's the oldest brother in a family of three; the first one to graduate from West Point, and because of his younger brother's political leanings has a hard time getting a commission even when the war starts. So he spends most of his time frustrated and/or chatting up Laura's character. He's quite charming and you can see the bud of his acting chops coming out - I really wish he'd do more comedy as I think he'd make a fine humor actor.

He makes a dashing soldier and despite the goofy hat, he looks great in his uniforms...so tall and slender and his big old teeth. *laughs*

I'd say if you really like Clive then go ahead and watch this. Had he not been in it, even being a Civil War buff, I would have turned it off.

He has aged realllllly well. *laughs*
