First, an excellent link:

And thoughts. .

Each of the Joss Whedon primary (non-spin) shows had a **Voiiiice* *Ovvv* Jossssssss**: Xander. . . Wash. . . Topher; the smart-alecky sarcastic guy with little or no direct combat ability (tho may have useful skills), who gets most of the good comedic lines.

Joss' killing his own Voice seems a sure sign that it's OVER: the last season, or a 1-shot movie with little or no hope of revival. Wash: movie. Topher: last season. Xander: actual intent was to kill him in the last season until it was decided that it was far too late, dramatically speaking, to off him (foreshadowed shades of "too big to fail"?) so they went all Odin-Eye/Nick Fury on him (cue season 8 comic).

Joss haz issuez. I'd thank a higher power for that, but Joss don't believe in such. Gorram idjit. I'd sic Shepherd Book on 'im but Book's dead (quelle surprise), and was really named Henry Evans, anyway.

Joss' ability to swing emotions in his productions, especially combined with his talent at word-bending/crafting, reminds me of some other playwright; one who lived way back in the day. Can't remember the fellow's name, but seem to recall he was known for shaking spears, or something. . .

"Into every generation a Player is born: one writer in all the world, a chosen one. (He/She) alone will wield the wit and (character killing fury) to fight limited budgets and puerile prejudices; to stop (well, give a reprieve from) the spread of the evil that is the common fare. (He/She) is the Player."

Late edit: When Mal first fights the operative, Inara lights an incense stick as the fight is about to begin, for a reason that soon becomes clear. Chinese martial arts contests sometimes have such burning during fights. What is interesting, is that that type of incense stick (which saves Mal's tail has a *very* specific name. . It is called a JOSS stick!
