…as my “win” for coming in first place in the category of “T.V. Host,” the first week of BigShotLive.com’s national talent search.
This little thing called the ‘internet’ that some managers, agents, and T.V. execs have scoffed about in terms of significance?
Well, I had a T.V. camera behind me, a “lipstick cam” beside me, and A-List celebrities speaking with me because of it.
My response to all the doubters and haters who’ve discouraged me for being too “left of center,” “too much,” “too pushy” or (inflected, of course, rife with sarcasm) “too hip”?
You’re right!
If it weren’t for your antiquated thinking, I wouldn’t be so damn hard-headed.
Plus there wouldn’t be tourists sites for me to recommend:
THE LA BREA TAR PITS, DINOSAURS.
This swishy, wildly-opinionated, flamboyantly-dressed (thank you, Jared Gold!) queer boy from a small town Sunday night interviewing everyone from Aretha Franklin--celebrated artist of the year-to John Mayer, from Chaka Kahn and Chris Brown to country crooner and shirtless pin-up hunk John Paisley, from Michelle Williams (as in: final line-up, Destiny’s Child: whose solo album drops this summer) who complimented me directly into the camera for doing a “great job” (though, TRUST: the first interview of the night was anything but the case) to Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment (translation: my version of a rock star, as I’m a burgeoning writer/producer in T.V. land)…who turned and walked to me in the press line-up and said, “Dude, you’re a rock star.” He complimented my outfit, gave me an interview-after blowing off journalists from mainstream magazines (whose names I’d rather not mention, as they were surprisingly helpful and supportive)-and, I’ve gotta tell ya: having an executive producer as young and visionary as HE is give me props? An executive producer on “30 Days,” “The Office,” and “Ugly Betty” who was not only deemed an ‘iconoclast’ in 2007 by the Sundance Channel, but who’s also worked his way up the ranks on The Peacock by taking risks and staying true to himself?
In this city where the last two weeks of my life have been rife with some of both “the best and the worst”?
The timing couldn’t have been better.
Thanks to those of you who’ve stuck by me during my most manic, tempestuous of times. (I know; I know-there’ve been SO FEW!) ;) If it weren’t for you all, I would’ve packed my bags and left with my tail between my legs YEARS ago, I’m sure…
And if you feel otherwise?
Please:
I invite you to remove yourself from my friends' list now, and have a great life. I’d rather not expend the doubt, time, nor negative energy of my own to scour a list here-- or elsewhere-- and “cast anyone out.”
I’m interested in what’s going ON, and coming UP.
Again, thanks everyone… and if any of you choose to enter this on-going on-line competition?
I wish the very best of luck.
